Thread: Opinions on Mizuno/Cleveland Irons please.

Smile Opinions on Mizuno/Cleveland Irons please.

    Hi everybody,
I was looking at TM and Callaway irons on the web and also had a chance to see other brands like Cleveland and Mizuno.

I am not a the right person to make any judgement as I am new to golf, but I would like to get your opnions about these brands. If any of you have recently purchased any new irons and let me know if you are happy or you prefer to go back to another brands.

    Thanks,

    Gul.

You will hear this time and time again here. The only way to find out is to go and demo some. What works for me may not work for you.

They are all good brands, but it is important to consider type of club to fit your standard (which if I am right is beginner) and the shaft.

Consider taking lessons. Talk to the pro and ask him to advise you what clubs to choose for your swing / ambitions.

Better to invest in instruction now and equipment later. Probably not what you want to hear, but worth thinking about. Otherwise you will end up with a lovely set of high end clubs that you will not be able to hit.

So many guys I see have great clubs that they hit sideways!!

Doctors say that you should eat 5 pieces of fruit or veg a day to remain healthy. Last week I ate 5 mouldy plums and that night I shat the bed. What's healthy about that?:shocked::shocked:

  5. Cleveland and Mizuno both make quality products, but golf is so much a game for and against oneself that any else's equipment won't necessarily work for you.

    I don't think I could hit Tiger's driver 350 :(

  6. lesson is fine. i started playing golf by taking lessons. helped me tremendously. if you start w/ solid foundation, everything is upto practice. when i first started, i had $200 set that my dad bought from walmart years ago. since then i demoed countless irons, drivers, putters, etc. finally ended up w/ my irons that i have now.

i'd say mizuno mx series are one of the best game improvement clubs. if i didn't get my set, i'd probably gotten a mizuno. just love the soft feel.

cleveland has CCM technology, which makes the club little firm. some people prefer this feeling and i'd say they do make some solid clubs. i like the CG1 black pearl. very nice set.

    yeah i know.. i just love it. just like MP32, MP33, MP67.

CG4's are very nice clubs. i'd also mention hibore sets, but i don't think it's allowed in this forum. they look too funky to me.

Classic simple blades I love, I Honestly wish I could just buy about 9 sets and play 20 rounds each, find the exact one I like, and then give all the rest back for the money I paid...

there were some Cg1's at a golfsmith for $299 used in good shape.. man i wanted those...

  12. Demo, demo, demo, demo.

And when you do, demo some blades as well as some game-improvement irons. I, too, am a Mizuno fan, but the only ones I ever tried were the MP-33, MP-60, and MP-67. I went with the MP-67s and have been extremely satisfied.

For most folks, money is an object of considerable importance. For a lot of us, golf is also an object of considerable importance. So you have to make every buck count. IF YOU ARE ABSOLUTELY CERTAIN THAT GOLF IS GOING TO BE SOMETHING YOU ARE GOING TO GO INTO SERIOUSLY AND IF MONEY IS AN OBJECT AS WELL, I will give you some advice here that will get some to jump all over me. So be it. Blades or player's clubs are harder to hit than so-called game improvement clubs, beginner's clubs. But if you take lessons with one set, work hard and improve, you will be ready for a different set in a year or two, maybe less; maybe more. Then you will need a transition period to get accustomed to the new set. The blade will give you more feedback on each shot you hit, and theoretically that can get you to hitting quality shots faster. But if you have a good instructor, you are not going to be way behind because you are not using beginner's clubs. Old-timers like myself began the game when there simply was no such thing of an iron that was not a blade, and some of those were bad blades (and at that time, bad meant bad, as in not good. My MP-67s are some bad irons which today means they are as good as an iron gets. Go figure.). I started playing before I was twelve, and I was playing consistently in the eighties on a tough course when I was fourteen. So I personally do not see an urgent need to go through the game-improvement iron phase, IF you intend to be a serious golfer who will someday appreciate the beautiful difference in a shot hit well with a blade as compared to the game-improvement, cavity back, off-set, usually cast metal, Gumby-looking clubs.

Again, many will disagree with my "logic" on this. I look back, and I know how tough my father's generation was. His dad's generation was even tougher. The farther you go back, the tougher the people were. Kids walked the 2000 mile Oregon Trail bare-footed. Today, we have lots of leisure time and common folks like us get to play golf which was once only for the well-born (weren't they a special bunch). And look at our approach to teaching the beginner. "Don't be too overly harsh on the beginner by forcing them to use those horrid blades. Break them in gently with some clubs that will forgive them for their errors." It gets a little crazier every day. I believe my mother was as great a mother as ever walked this planet, but a mother today would lose her children if they raised their kids the way my mother did. It would be child abuse. My friends, we are living in an age of idiots who have no common sense and who are overly pampered.

Having said all that, it is your choice. Regardless of what you choose, I hope you enjoy this game. It is one of the few tough things left around here, and they are constantly trying to make it easier. Like every thing else.

That quote is kind of oxy-moronic, isn't it? I mean, arguably would mean "I believe this statement, but others may believe something else"; while period would mean "no doubt about it, or the argument is over"

So are you saying "no doubt, everyone thinks differently", or "while everyone is different, it is my belief that Mizuno no doubt makes one of the finer quality products in the golf world of irons"?

    amen!

when i first started playing golf last year, i said to my friend who got me into golf "why would you ever want to hit irons that are difficult to hit w/ in the first place?" as he was going to set of blades every month. he always got frustrated w/ his shots while i blasted w/ my cheap walmart club. then one day, i see him shaping shots and get more consistant, more beautiful swing, and me, i wasn't improving. so i went on to callaway, and then to titleist. i see myself time after time getting frustrated b/c it was so difficult to hit these irons. so i worked harder and harder to produce the best swing i can w/ the one of the hardest irons to hit. my swing isn't par w/ PGA by any means, but my game shows that i hit my irons pretty well. the blades force you to produce good impact position (which matters more than the whole swing), and in some sense it was my "game improvement" club.

but on the other hand, i have another friend who, if given a set of blades to play, he will quit the game forever. so if you dedicate to golf as true sport, meaning not only for pure enjoyment once every year, then give blade a try. this may not be right for some people, but it will work better in long run for others, like me.
