Missing the Dave Pelz School

I opened my Golf Magazine yesterday only to discover that they were having a one day clinic here this week - Wednesday - Saturday. I called and got the last spot for tomorrow....

Then I got more bad economic news today and had to cancel. It's pretty expensive: $375 for a six hour class....

This is my biggest weakness by far....from 100 yards and in and I really wanted to give it a go...the guy on the phone said they would be back here next year and I could try it then....

I would like to give it a shot as well, but it is way too expensive. I can get a 3 day session for what Pelz charges for 6 hours. I have been intreagued by some of Pelz's theories since reading the Short Game Bible, but I can not fully buy into all of his theories. If his one day school was about half of what he charges, I might give it a shot.

I met Pelz at the PGA show last year. I almost literally ran into him as I was working my way around the different displays. When I realized who it was I almost walked into, I stuck out my hand and thanked him for writing the short game bible. Not wanting to bother him beyond that, I started to turn away when he stopped me and asked what parts of the book worked best for me. I told him what parts seemed to work for me, he thanked me for buying his book and wished me the best for my game and we went our seperate ways. I always found him a bit arrogant when I see him on TV, but he was a pretty cool guy in person. Nothing like his TV personality.

375$!?!?!? The dude i'm guna work from the John Jacobs GS in march (when he gets his lazy butt back from Arizona for the winter) and i'll get much better and 1 on 1 for whatever part of my game I need.

I'm guna work so much on the short game with him mostly, and work on a few specialty shots. IMO where i'm at right now anything too big on the normal swing wouldn't be worth it when I can vid-and self diagnose to a point, but i'll get him to point some things out, then work on short game and the few trouble shots.

IMO, my money shot right now is a stinger driver, used that a lot last year in tourneys under pressure.

That sounds like a great opportunity though, but imo wouldnt be worth it cuz Im more of feel than a 3 o'clock, 9 o'clock stuff that pelz teaches.

I have learned a few little things from Peltz, but

when I watched that episode on television where he was seriously teaching how to skip a ball across the water "when there was no other choice", my opinion of him fell considerably. It was like he was taking me for some kind of rube, and I just didn't like it.

So this is where Phil gets it from?

$375 seems a bit steep to us but I'm sure he has no trouble booking those things. I see an instructor at the range I go to driving some 500 or 600 Mercedes deal, not sure what it is but whatever the most expensive one you can buy at the dealership, that's it. I happened to see him introducing 2 of his students to each other. Um, Ok. One is president of a bank and the other is production manager for the largest company in the state. $375 to them is less than $3.75 to us, you're talking about 8 figure salaries there. They make $375 squeezing out the morning dump. lol.

It will just be a load of drills and practice routines that you can get from a book.I would pay 375 to go to Harmon for a lesson, but never Pelz

I paid the $375 (I think it was $325 at the time). Was it "worth it"? It was was it was. I got some methods from it that worked, and some that didn't. Absolutely spot on technique for bunker play - I've used it ever since, and have become a decent bunker player because of it. I learned a lot about how to read and play break. I've drifted away from his method, and play putts more by feel now, but I think his lesson has become part of the "program". I bought a couple of his practice tools, and I still use them.

My chipping still sucks. Hard to teach someone to overcome the chyips.

I can't say that I would recommend it, but I don't regret doing it.

I can get lessons at my club - I know...that is probably what I should do....but I am still facinated by some of his theories.

I met a fellow once (loaded with $) who went to the three day school and he said it helped him tremendously...
