Anybody play Cobra Irons or Drivers?

Looking and most signatures here and on the course I very rarely see anybody play Cobra's. Any ideas as to why this is or am I just not looking hard enough and noticing them?

I think ManchesterGolfer plays Cobra drivers and someone else just bought one of the new Cobra drivers. Also some playing their irons too. Can't remember who though.

Mine are a couple of years old now, but they'll be in the bag for the foreseeable future. Tried the woods when I was shopping for a 3W, but didn't really care for any.... but I didn't like the Taylor FW's either.

My initial thought to Cobra is just massively "game-improving" (i.e. closed faces, oversized irons, etc), which is no improvement for my swing.

I have never even been tempted to try Cobra equipment.

Cobra make some great clubs for players these days as well as the ultra forgiving lines they've always had.

I played Cobra SS Forged Cavity back irons for most of this season. They are a real solid set, powerful, good forgivness, workable & nice feel. The newer Cobra forged CB's are up there with the best Forged cavities around. As for drivers I've just recieved my Cobra Speed Pro yesterday i've not had a chance to hit this one yet but I did have one ealier this season with a reg Dimana blueboard. Great looking head square face angle very long but the shaft was to weak for me. The one I've just ho'd has a stiff V2 and i can't wait to hit it tomorrow.

Go have a look on there website the Players clubs they do are great. Cobra Golf

This would be a great set. Cobra Speed Pro S or D driver. Speed Pro 13 degree & 18 degree fairways, Baffler Pro Rescue (IG loves his) and then with cobra be part of the Acushnet family you'd go for Vokey wedges and a Scotty to top it off. I'd play it for sure.

Snobbery? They don't have a particularly strong tour presence, so most aspiring golfers pass them by and go onto a brand they recognize their favorite player using.

My first set of irons were a set of used King Cobra Oversize with graphite shafts I bought from a friend and set me off well. I then progressed to a set of 3400I/XH at the start of this year, which I used for a while before going back to the old versions I'd stored away as they suited me much better - I posted at the time about the issues I was having with the wide soles, and why the narrower soles of the old model seemed to suit me much better. As Greydawg can testify from seeing me use both, I hit those old Cobras much better and with much more accuracy.

Greydawg is another Cobra devotee on here, starting out with the 3100I/H models that I think are a bit too much club for him - so now he's playing with my 'on loan' 3400s and getting the ball up easier and hitting it straighter and longer than at any time since I've known him! He had pretty much the full Cobra package too, with the M/Speed driver and 3w, two Bafflers and his irons, but I've since turned him on to Cleveland fairways and hybrids, which he hits much better. I had an SZ460 driver myself for my first year, but I sliced it way too easily and could never get on with the noise it made - ironic that I moved on to a Nike Sumo this year!

And of course, the Bafflers have PLENTY of devotees on here - just start a thread called 'What's the best hybrid?' and watch them all scurry out from under the bushes to praise Cobra clubs!

I disagree, they don't have a large presence but I'd say it's pretty strong. They could probably do with a couple of older US players to boost the brand as well but this is a Strong line up Geoff Ogivly, Camilo Villegas, J.B.Holmes, Ian Poulter, Jason gore & Kevin Na. Only a small team but some good players and a Major winner.

Their irons are definately underated. As for the woods, I never could stand the loud clankyness.

Just different definitions of 'strong'! What I meant by 'strong' was that they aren't the most visible of brands compared to the others, and while they have some very good players there's no stand-out in there like a Tiger, Ernie, Phil, Vijay or even a Sergio where the majority of the golfing public could instantly tell you what brands they use.

Personally I think they're great clubs, but I get the feeling most players don't equate the models they see in the shops as being the ones they players are out on tour with, especially compared to brands like Titleist, Callaway or Mizuno. A real shame, as I think they make really good clubs.

That noise is to help boost game improvers confidence with the big high MOI drivers. The new Pro line don't make that noise they make a more solid noise like that you'd expect from a Titlesit or a Taylor made TP club give them a demo.

Yep, they need a Flagship player for sure!!!

EDIT:- That said all the Juniors in England will know Poulter and that he plays cobra, Same with the Aussie's & Ogivily, Colombians & Villegas, It's just the US that they need a big name for although most golf nuts would know JB plays cobra.

Never could figure out why it matters so much to some people if a pro plays a certain club. He's not the one swinging my clubs, I am, and what matters to me is how they feel and work for me on the course. That's why my bag has 7 different brands in my 13 clubs.

Or, consider this - Pros get paid millions to wear logos and advertisements.

Us average Joe's on the other hand, in the endless spirit of monkey see monkey do, we pay millions to wear logos and advertisements.

Hi-

More of a Lurker than Poster but at the end of last season I went and got fitted for irons. Cobra was one of the brands the computer spit out as good for my swing speed and Tempo. I ended up getting 3400s I/H's. I'm still a beginner but I definitely fell like the improved my game. I was able to get the ball up better and picked up some yardage. I started hitting some of those shots that keep you coming back after 4 or 5 holes of chunks and thins.

I ended up going back and getting the matching wedges.

FWIW, I'm really happy with them

Barry
