Swing speeds

I spent a few hours tonight on a launch monitor trying out new drivers. I found one i liked and was playing around with grips and stuff and my average speed was 104 with a smooth swing i always take, i choked all the way down on the grip just to try it out and my swing speed went up to 110. Does this make sense to anyone else on here, i went back and forth trying both grip positions and always had the same results.

I know a guy at work who hits 300+ most of the time and he chokes down on the grip. I've never seen him grip it any other way so I don't know if he would be longer or shorter doing it the other way.

I can only think that by gripping dwon the player is getting into a more powerful position they feel more confortable hitting hard

I have never tried gripping down on a launch monitor, but on the course I seem to always hit my longest drives when I choke down on the grip.

I just put it down to a better smash factor from the increase of control a (effectively) shorter shaft enables, but your post has got me wondering.

I think it may be like Dave said, as when I grip down I certainly feel more comfortable and can swing harder without over swinging.

Maybe this loon Wishon has a point about shorter drivers, huh?

I dont actually swing any different and keep my same tempo but it gains swing speed and actually dropped the spin rate from 3850 to 3100 but the launch angle stayed the same between 12.5 and 14.5 I tried it on the range today but it was foggy and couldnt tell where they were landing. The driver has a 44 inch shaft and i choke down 1" to a 1-1/4"
