Is Tiger really that good.....

....or the competition is asleep?
Looks he's rolling through another win at the Target.

If I may make a bold prediction, that the 2008 season will be his best, and will blow anything he did in 2000 out of the water.
I'm not bold enough to predict a grand slam, but if it did happen, it would not shock me.

Yes he is that good, and I don't know if I should hate him or worship him.

I think that he is just that good. Having never seen Jack in his prime, Tiger exhibits the most control I have seen over the golf ball.

We are 'Lucky' to be watching the best ever golfer who has lived plying his trade. If Tiger wasn't around one of Mickleson, Singh, Furk, etc would have won a lot more and it would be that player being compared to Jack, Snead, Hogan, Arnie and the likes. Tiger is just heads and shoulders above all his peers. They all have to many battle scares to go head to head with the Tiger, it's gonna take a new kid on the block to get the better of him 1st crack to even put an once of doubt in tigers head and i don't see that player coming through as yet.

Oh good. Another "let's slobber over Tiger" thread.

Yes, he's good, but c'mon people. I heard the announcers going freakin' nuts about a seven or six iron Tiger hit to twenty five feet. Big f'ing deal. The 62 was very nice on Friday, but I wish everyone wouldn't treat every shot he hits as the best they've ever seen.

This is no offense to Tiger fans, but I'm just sick of it. I wonder if they treated Jack this way, or its just for Tiger.

I think that part of it is that its been SOOOO long since we have seen someone this good. Sure Jack won his last major in 1986, but he was past his REAL prime at that point. Since Jack's hayday who has been the best player? NIck Faldo with 6 majors? and thats arguable...

I am a fan of Tiger but can understand what you mean when you say your are sick of it, but one of my goals in life is to get to see a tournament where Tiger is playing, in real life, not just on TV.

He is that good. I have no doubt in my mind that 2008 will be his best year yet. He says he has a new confidence in his game and has more control over what he wants the ball to do than ever... Just read this:
CANOE -- SLAM! Sports - Golf - News: Woods says he's close to a new standard

Tiger is not one to run his mouth. When he says things like that he means it , and he means business.

Going to disagree with your disagreement, Tiger is head & shoulders above everyone else & has been for quite sometime. He has not peaked yet & only continues to get even better.

He is that good. We just have come to expect so much from him that when he doesn't make a birdie, eagle or pull off the greatest shot we've ever seen it seems like a mistake. He is the best putter in the world and the best long iron player in the world. I don't think he's the best wedge player and definitely not the best with the driver but being one of the best ballstrikers and the putter make up for it. Then there is the "mental aspect". Not only is he the best ever in golf but may be the best ever in any sport when it comes to the mental side.

The coming year will most likely be his best chance to take all 4 majors since the toughest one, the US open, is being played on a course he's won on a bunch of times and like a home course to him.

Don't get me wrong, this course played to his strengths big time. He is just the best and right near top in every aspect of the game. Everyone else has some sort of achilles heel or a few. His may be the driver to some extent but he hits a 3w further than half the guys hit a driver anyway.

I can't agree with the guys who think he putts better than everyone else. He is a great putter on regular tour courses, but definitely struggled with the flat stick in the majors this year. With any luck at all on the greens he would have won the Masters and US Open by the length of the straight. His ball striking and shotmaking is so far ahead of any other on the planet in terms of quality and consistency it's not funny. His tee to green on Saturday of the US Open is as good a ball striking round as you will ever see, but he didn't get the job done on the greens. That 69 would have been 62 for him in 2000 (I think he had something like 36 putts for the round!), and the Sunday at the Masters I have never seen him miss so many makeable putts.

I think he is without doubt the greatest player on the planet, but I think it's more because of his ball striking and course management than his putting, especially in the majors. He will no doubt win more majors as there isn't anyone else out there who has the all round game to challenge him and he will be in contention every time he tees it up in one, but I think the events of the Masters/US Open will become more frequent.
