Positive signs for Darren

While the eyes of the golfing world were firmed fixed on California for another display of Tiger Golf, a not too insignificant event was happening in the Southern hemisphere. And it didn't go unnoticed that a cartain Darren Clarke finished 3rd at the weekend in South Africa. On what looks like a hugely difficult 7,400 yard beast of a course he posted an impressive 68 on the final day to shoot through the leaderboard. Well done lad! I am sure this will make his Christmas a bit better.

He has had a couple of horrible years but seems to be strating to come through. I know he has been working relentlessly on his game over the past few months, so its nice to see some sort of payback. I still think he has a big hill to climb but the signs are there for the start of a come back. Let's wish him all the best in 2008. It would be good to see him mave back up the world rankings, starting to compete again on a stage he is surely too yound to exit.

Agree totally, I wish all the best to Darren & his family.

I'm pretty sure Clarke still has the game and now his personal situation is settling down again he will rediscover the drive to get back up the world rankings. I'm pretty sure he wouldn't like his young mate Rory McIloroy to get a higher world ranking than him (not yet anyway) and this is a Ryder Cup year so he will be up for that in a big way again. Come on Dazza your fans are behind you!!!

Congrats to Darren for the nice finish! I would love to see him return to form.

Indeed personally he has had an extremely painful year, anyone would have a tough time with the stuff he's gone through, let along a pro athlete who is in the limelight for his misfortune. It's tough when he's having problems and it gets broadcasted like it always is, sometime people gota leave ppl alone.

Watching Darren Clarke rise to be one of the top players was fun.Watching as he now begins his spiral into the 'once was' category makes me sad.Hope he doesn't quit trying though.

I must be in a minority, I don't particularly have any fondness for the guy. I am genuinely sorry for what happened obviously, but that doesn't alter the fact there are reasons why I don't really care how well he does. He was notorious for certain things a few years ago and I won't be all high and mighty and throw moral values all over the place, I will just say I am not bothered about him. His children yes, I hope they are happy. Him and his golf, no.

Agreed he is a good guy, the Darren Clarke foundation has really taken on in Ireland, and Darren puts a lot of time into it and trying to help young golfers.

He certainly comes across well on TV and I am sure he does a lot of fine work for charity. But I still don't warm to him, not at all.

I have being thinking about D.C. slipping from rankings ,etc. and it finally came to me.He lost his wife to cancer this past year so I for one am giving him a big 'HANG IN THERE".Opens my eyes to his decline in resent times and I am now pulling for him more than anybody else on ANY tour.
