Golf Digest Contest "What Would You Shoot?"

This will be awesome to watch, I can't wait to see what the score will be:

gdopencontest.com: What would you shoot?: Magazine: golfdigest.com

I say 123.

I would pack at least 2 dozen balls in my bag.

I'll say I could break 120 and estimate 112. I could break 100 if Tiger could putt for me. I'd probably 4 putt from places they'd 1 putt 75% of the time. I'm going to write my essay about my love or trying to work the ball and feel I have the ability to hit any shot the pros can, just not nearly the consistency. Maybe that'll at least grab some attention of the reader.

I know one thing, I may as well leave my headcover's at home, 3W, 5W and steep SW pitch would probably be the "routine" on the par 4's. lol. "please go in the bunker".

I said that I would shoot 95, off my 6 handicap. I think if you decide that breaking 100 is the goal, that makes it easier.

I shot 92 at Bethpage from the back off a 12. Now, the greens were 10.5 instead of 13, and the fairways were wider, and the rough was 3 inches, instead of six. I'd love to try.

What a great idea for a contest....

I've been to more than 75 PGA and Senior PGA events when I used to work for a big brewery out of St. Louis... and I've hit putts on about 20 of those courses in the evenings DURING the event or just after Sunday's round. (Incidentally, the 16th TPC at Sawgrass is the fastest green I have ever putted on)

That might make me the guy with the most putting "experience" with Tour Conditions on the boards.... never really thought about that! I like it.

These greens are extremely HARD as well. You'll need to spin the ball to do well at Torrey Pines...

I shot an 86 at Bethpage about 2 years before the Open, and did not face all the Open set-up of course.

But I think I could shoot between 95 and 105 depending on if I play smart (laying up out of the rough, knocking my 3rd on and taking my 2 putt bogey) and how I putted that day. I have good length off the tee, (had a 300 yarder measured on Google Earth in the Google Earth Photos thread in the Pictures forum) and chip and hit the flop shot well. I'm only average length with the irons, and spin the ball more than most, but play soft balls of course.

I shot 73-72 in 1981 Quailfier for U.S.Open on the South Course. It played Just under 7200yds. Missed getting in by...........8.lol From 7600yds.and using new tech.ball and driver bet I could shoot the same or close.Only difference is I don't think I could shoot good scores back to back because my...back isn't what it once was. Getting old sucks

90-ish. My problem isn't fast greens or thick rough (I'm used to both), it's losing balls in the woods on the left side of any course. With a million people watching my ball I am going to save a lot of strokes. I play to a 12 now (most recent calculation).

Agreed, I can hack it outta thick rough with some accuracy, enough to get up near the green np. With my really steep swing that helps a lot.

With someone watching my ball, I wouldnt lose any in trees or rough. Fast greens make me putt better anyways, I absolutely love fast greens. Best putting round I ever had was when they setup a course near me for an ironman and the greens were at about 13, that was so much fun

Doubt it dude. No offense to you but thatd be an accomplishment. There are many + handicap qualifiers with wayy more tourney experience than you that shoot 80+ at the US open. You really need to realize just how hard those courses are.

I have played bethpage black over 25 times and my best score there from the 2002 us open tees is a 75. At torrey pines my first attempt id prob shoot 90 because I haven't seen the 6 inch rough before. I have seen super fast greens but not rough like that.

Probably in the area of 120-130. Just shooting under the pressure would drive me nuts.

If you get me there, ill show you. Im not underestimating anything. Ive played courses the pros play, and even played the venue where they used to play the Air Canada Championship and the Bell Canadian (Northview GC and Shaughnessy GC), both were setup to tour conditions (played Shaughnessy a week after the Canadian Open and shot 77). Played where they played the Air Canada on the sunday of our our tournament, from the tips with sunday pins, faster greens and grown rough, shot 75.

Mind you these are not US Open courses, but you all know how hard Shaughnessy played at the Canadian Open a few years back.

I'm sayin i'd most likely shoot anywhere from mid-high 70s (great day) to mid 80s on a decent round. If I play like crap no doubt id be close to 100, but Im not betting on me playing like crap anymore.

You want to play on a fast green? You should have been here back in September. Someone actually brought out the stimpmeter and we had 15 for about two weeks (normally 10-11 or so). You'd hit a wedge and the ball would literally bounce off - if you didn't have a ton of backspin it would probably scoot off the other side as if the ball stole something and was now running from the LAPD.

I shot the best ever during those times, too. That's when a drive would go 320 easily, with a ton of roll.
