Still have a pull hook

I Still have a horrible case of the pull hooks. The main problem is with my woods. I usually pull my irons a little bit but no big problem. However, I Hook my woods like crazy and it is un playable. Plz give any tips or drill you can thanks of.

Well do you know why this is happening in the first place?

A pull hook starts left and then dives even farther left. This means that you're swinging from the outside of the ball to the inside (over the top, out-to-in- etc) the same way a slicer does, but you're also closing the clubface to the point that it is square to your strike-line (which is not square to the target line), and then even more than that. A slicer swings the same way you do, but with a square/open face at impact, causing a left-to-right ball flight. Yours is left-to-lefter. You see less trouble with your irons because they produce more dominant vertical backspin, which straightens out the axis of rotation.

Pick up and copy of a golf magazine and there's surely some slice fixes. Most likely you're swinging your hands over your shoulders at the beginning of the downswing, which forces the OTT swing. Practice keeping your right elbow to your right side (assuming you're a right handed golfer) and turning the hips and shoulders through the downswing while keeping the club on your body line. You need to get a feel for quiet hands.

Quiet hands brings is to the fact that your release is too pronounced, or too early. Your early release closes the clubhead too quickly and gets your "lefter" ballflight.

Your body is outracing your swing. When that happens you are probably coming over the top and snaping your hands through in order to catch up.

This will be correct if you are getting out in front of the ball before impact. Conversely, if you are staying behind it and hitting pull hooks, you are most likely doing just the opposite: your arms are out racing your body.

If this is the case, take care to feel like you are rotating and not sliding your body. You should feel as though your lead "butt cheek" is turning behind you. You can't hit pull hooks from here. You might draw it a bit you you will not hook it unless you have an extremely strong grip.

This best way to know for sure would be to take some video of your swing and have a look. There is more than one way to hit pull hooks.

not much improvement

I've tried most of these and they didnt seem to work this guy told me to try starting outside then throwing my hands at the target. The seems to be opposite of going in to out as many people suggest. Aren't these the opposite?

To me a pull-hook is defined as a shot that starts left and hooks further left from the intended target line. To get this ballflight the head is starting outside of the downswing plane and coming across the inside of it. The face is shut and the ball is being smothered. Any chance you started out with a pull slice and tried to correct it with a stronger grip or overactive hands?

So here's how I fix it if I'm hitting pulls. 1) check my grip. Two knuckles on the left hand, V pointing at right shoulder. Right V points just inside of my chin. 2) I take the club straight back using my shoulders on the target line for as long and far as I can. If the arms take the club inside too soon, it can result in the OTT move which is simply coming over and outside of the correct downplane... which produces a shut face pull, square face pull slice and open face mega-slice. 3) I like to feel a pause at the top and let my legs and hips bump towards the target. I let the club "drop", triggered by this move, no pulling or quick arms from the top.

Drills that worked
- put a headcover a few feet behind the ball on the target line. As you take the club back keep it just outside the cover and never let it go inside of it. On the downswing let the clubhead drop and come inside of the cover.

- take the emty plastic range bucket and put it 4-5 inches outside of the tee with the front of the bucket about even with the ball position. You probably won't hit it even with an outside to in move but the fear of hitting it helps to stay inside.

- same principle as above. If you can hit off grass, get an old steel shaft and stick in the ground on an angle, even with your shoulder plane. Put the ball under the shaft, maybe close to the butt in case you actually hit the thing. I put the ball right up close to the bottom with short irons but that gets scary with a driver.

Out on the course I take my practice swings for a fw wood and driver around my body. Almost like I'm swinging a baseball bat rather than a golf club. This gets me in the groove of a flatter, wider plane than my steep "dig and drive" iron and wedge swing that works well but not for a driver or FW wood.
