Thread: Speaking of belt buckles

As for him being a hack, I would call that statement ridiculous. The man is racked inside the world top 10, and was amongst the best players on tour week in week out last year.

I find all the Rory hate comical. People bitch and moan that no one will stand up to Tiger. Then someone does and all they hear is "shut the hell up". IMO Rory is a breath of fresh air on a tour that is as close to archaic as they come.
Did you see the friggen bomb he just dropped? That was one of the longest putts I've ever seen holed for an eagle and he calmly walks up like he's been there before and his playing partner gives him a fist bump. I can respect that. No need for an "endzone celebration" when holing a monster putt. I can think of one guy who'd be pumping the fist like it was his first ever eagle if he'd holed it.

I'm going to disagree with you here Lyle, which is quite rare.

The Masters Committee can invite whoever they wish. The "qualifying guidelines" are just that. It is their way to tell the PGA Tour acceptable qualifying ways to get into their tournament.

The Official Site of the Masters Golf Tournament

As an example, let's say Luke Donald, who has "qualified" for the 2008 Masters in 3 different ways, is a convicted pedophile, has just been accused of killing a man with his bare hands, is out on bail and awaiting trial. Also, he openly calls Augusta National members a bunch of racists and Augusta National Golf club the "Scourge of the South".

Do you really, honestly, believe that they would invite him still?

Remember the discussions Hootie had with the press when Michelle Wie was trying to qualify for the Masters by winning the US (male) Publinks? The winner is given an invitation to the Masters. Yet, Hootie was questioned often about whether or not Augusta would still invite her if she did win.

He always said that, yes, they would invite her if she qualified.

Augusta National controls everything at The Masters. They sign a 1-year contract with CBS each year to broadcast it. If CBS steps out of line, they always have the option of giving the broadcast to another network. This is why you will never see McCord there again.

Finally, Rory is a hack. You can be a hack and still get paid in your profession. Nobody is saying he's a 12-handicap type of hack. He is a chop inside of professional golf.

Much like in the comedy business. Carrot Top is a total hack in my opinion. Does he still make a ton of money and get paid for what he does? Yes. Do I think he is any good? No. Would I ever see him? Not unless it's free.

All of Sabatini's actions are hackish. Everything he does just screams, "Look at me! I'm different! Please look at me!" Calls out Tiger in the press. Goes to Tiger's Tourney then WD's. Changes from Nike to Adams just to "get out from under Tiger's shadow". Wears a garish belt-buckle that screams, "Look at me! I'm a badass!"

I think the guy needs a hug.

    I thought I was right.

I went in 2006 as a spectator. Certain events get you qualified for The Masters. You do not have to get an invitation once that criteria is met.

I didn't want to say anything....I knew he was wrong. Sorry.

I was surfing the sites of some of the area Country Clubs and noticed that all most all of them now specify under proper golf attire, either a collared shirt, or a golf specific mock neck tee. So obviously the times they are a changing.

I would love to see tiger come out in shorts and just play it off like nothing was wrong. I understand why the players have to wear pants, but there needs to be some exceptions, like in tennis, where white is manditory only at some tournaments. Something similar needs to be applied on the PGA Tour.

Also Rory is just plain and simple a loser, needs to give his head a shake.

  12. I don't how many European Tour viewers are on the site, but if anyone watched coverage of last weekends tournament, you will have seen Jose Manuel Lara wearing a standard t-shirt. None of this Tiger "small turtleneck" stuff, a plain old La Coste round-necked t-shirt.

Now that to me isn't right. Above anything else, he looked terrible in it. I love the whole small turtleneck thing, and I really love wearing my shorts in the summer, so I don't mind the pro's wearing these at all. It's good for getting younger kids than me into the game, but plain roundnecks are wrong...!

    Rant over.
