Poll: Annual cost to run a golf course...

We just got our Annual Report this week including the financial statements that break everything down.

What do you think it costs to maintain a golf course on an annual basis?...remember that it is a very nice course

Not a shabby muni - but not Pebble Beach either...its a nice course. Probably rated about a "B".

1) 18 hole championship course open year round...

2) 9 hole short course also open year round...

What do you think? I was really surprised to see the figure in our report....total cost of Golf Course Maintenance for the year 2004...

I'd guess between 2.5-3 million.

well i work at a golf course. we figured out that to have a cart run for 9 holes it costs approximately 3 dollars. We have about 10 emplayees being paid between 7-20 dollars an hour. I doubt the course generates more than $500,000 a year in revenue, so i would approximate the cost of a short, 9 hole muni course to be around 200K. a wild guess tho

The cost was approximately $976,000.

As I thought more about it, it seemed like a reasonable figure with all the labor you have to have...a pretty well paid Super and then a bunch of full time employees to cut the course etc. Cost for fertilizer etc.

I don't think that capital items were included in this figure - it was the operating costs..

Yeah and I do have a pretty decent bar tab...they need to money!!

Thanks to all the volunteer labor at our course, our budget is under $100,000.00 a year. I guess that explains the difference in our dues.

All the beers all those old farts drink probably helps too.

I think it's all geographical tho.

If you live in an area that has good rainfall and doesn't need much in terms of fertilizer and maintenance, then your costs are going to be less.

However, if you live in a region that has both a winter and summer season, hot as hell, and needs to be fertilized and aerated 4 times a year, then of course it's going to be more.

I can't even imagine what a muni course around here would be to run. Or even a semi-private for that matter.

All I know is that the city and those partners are making good money.

This is another factor. While we have to water every day during the summer months, we have a very attractive contract with the authority that controls the lake surrounding our neighborhood.

If we were paying for municipal water I'm sure our budget would double just from that.
