why do I play golf?

I enjoy being outside.
Even if I play like crap, I want to go back the next day.
A great golf shot is a thing of beauty.
I know I can do better.
I have a blast hanging out with my buddies. I have some very good friends and they make me laugh..........after a hard/bad week at work, I can forget all about the week I had after 18 holes of golf.........
Every sport I've ever played I was one of the best on the field/court,...and I want to be that way at golf one day...............and thats going to be a tough one.

I play golf because it gives me tremendous satisfaction kicking my boss's a**,and smiling as he signs his name which usually is required by our country club after a table amasses such a huge bill!!!p.s. He hasn't fired me because he is my 'snotty rich brother-in law.lmao

I love golf becuase it's a solo sport that removes me from the day 2 day grind. Though it has it's own set of stress, bettering ones self is a great thing when you can aply it to more than just golf..........might as well start with my swing!

Christmas Eve we played...............I had a bad drive, sliced it way right and was left with a 220 yard second shot........and put it 5 feet from the hole..........Thats why I play golf....It felt great!

The reasons I play golf are...
1. To-do something on the weekdays in between race weekends.
2. To get some exercise
3. To beat my friends
4. To have a great time and meet new people
5. To be good at probably the toughest game ever made

Golf in January

Gentlemen,
In North LA today we had partly sunny sky and 72 degrees when I made the turn. The Bermuda is brown, the wind is up (20mph) but what would you rather do?

1.) at first i played because i was at the start of the learning curve and seemed to get significantly better overnight. i always would try to make that day's score be my best score ever.

2.) now i've given up on trying to be a perfect golfer, and just enjoy being outside. i enjoy golfing alone and getting some personal time. at the same time, i really love golfing with people and enjoying the company of others.

3.) i am a girl... i get so much attention for being in the minority.

4.) i am addicted... i couldn't stop even if i tried!

Since my son passed away last year I have basically existed in a state of "nothing matters". For the first time I have actually found something that gives me time to reflect and escape from what I used to consider "living". It is a truly an amazing experience to have a focus and be able to share my thoughts with my son and not be disrupted by the daily grind. My son was and always will be my hero. I now play the game of golf to find time for appreciating his life and hopefully give him some smiles watching me hack away.

Nothing better...

I love golf and have played for almost 20 years. Nothing much better than being out on the golf course.

Why I Play

I know this thread is a bit dated, but it is one of the most intriguing I've ever encountered. After some thought, I've come up with a number of answers but few conclusions. Except maybe this - I have no idea why I play golf.

Because my dad plays with me (i.e. bonding time).
Because some of my heroes play (e.g. Tiger and Ernie).
Because I am an athlete - It's a lot easier to play a round than to gather up a bunch of guys for a pick-up game of football.
Because the game is indomitable - No matter how hard I try I'll never perfect my golf swing / game.
Because of the rewards - There are few feelings in the world like crushing a driver, puring a three iron, or sinking an 18-foot putt for a skin.
I could be dead or starving in Africa - In other words things could be worse than playing golf.

Very sorry to hear of about your son. I've always felt that losing a child is the hardest thing there is. I'm glad that golf can help ease the pain in some small way. Hopefully, becoming an active member of this crazy, but essentially good-natured group will help as well.

Reading your post made me realize that my problems aren't that bad, and it showed me again that golf can be far more than a day out with the guys.

I'm a father of four and I immediately said a prayer for you and your son.

Continue playing for as long as you can walk! If you're ever in NC and need 18, I'll play!
