Posted New Low Round

I started playing golf (more than once or twice a year) about a year ago and broke 80 last summer. Today, I shot a 75.

I was warming up for our match play event and really focused on not making any dumb mistakes. This means hitting fairways, aiming to the center of the green and really trying to make every effort to save pars, rather than pull off miracle birdies. Wow... What a difference. I hit 5 terrible shots, saved par on two of them and three-putted two greens.

I'm still working on keeping my score out of my head and for the most part I was able to do that today. But on the greens, especially on longer putts, I was trying to guide the ball close to the hole rather than making a nice confident stroke.

Any ideas on how to improve the mental side of putting? I have a routine that I try to stick to, but what has worked best for you?

Commit to your putt, like every shot. Once you've made your decision, stick with it.

Went golfing Sunday. At The Bridges is Madison as I had free greens fees (for 18 holes) coupon. The first nine took me 3 hours to play. Two threesomes in front of me took their sweet time. Did not try to play through--I was a single and I also had a twosome in front of me. I WILL NOT be going back there. Just played the nine holes and left. Had a similar experience 4 years ago on same course.

Swing was OK. Wait between shots was not.

SOLID shooting.

Now, if you can just get the back 9 figured out, you'd be cooking with gas!

Congrats. That's a great number.
