Rules & Handicap question

1st off is a rules question. On a hole with a massive lateral hazard and a hazard over 100yds. wide in front of the green, the hazard has yellow stakes. If I hit a drive in the fwy., hit a 3W in the hazard, drop on the line it went in, hit a 6 iron in the hazard, drop on line, hit the green with a wedge and 3 putt, what is my score.

Handicap question. I scored the above hole as a 9 and entered the round. It didn't ask or say anything about ESC, should I have done something different if I'm a 15 cap?

I"m pretty sure that it would be 9 or 11 because I'm not sure if you add 1 stroke or 2 for the hazard drop, but I'd guess it'd be 2.

You scored a 9

I am not sure how the USGA system works but here the most you could post is 2 over par for any given hole with a 15 cap.

Actually for 10-19 it is a 7.
2 over is for 9 or lower Course Handicap.

Although realize Ez, this is based on the Course Handicap and not your index which for you it is likely the same unless you play something with close to the maximum slope, or a putt~putt course. It comes more into play with something like mine, where my index is currently 17.5 but the course handicap at my home course is either 21 or 22 depending on the tees played (135 and 142 slope). Also most courses will not look at your card to adjust the score, but simply enter the score, so you should probably do so yourself.

OK. Got you PA. My handicap at that course is an 18, so I'd still be a max of 7? In that case I don't feel so bad. I had 40 GD putts and still only shot 1 over my cap.

Oh, what's the difference between a yellow and red stake hazard?

Oh, what's the difference between a yellow and red stake hazard?

Yellow stakes or lines denote a regular water hazard, red is for a lateral water hazard.

9 is gross, I should have at least saved an 8. I went back in and edited the score to 91.

As for the water hazard or lateral water hazard (Yellow & Red) this is known as rule 26 in the USGA rulebook. It can get quite confusing on options but to keep it simple here it goes. You have 3 options with a water hazard (yellow). You will have 5 options with a Lateral water hazard.
