Sorry, I kinda came off like a dick in that reply. I realize that the conditions dictate the shot. Heck, I hit an 18 degree hybrid last night into a 175 yard par 3. I normally hit that club 215, but it was into a 20-25 mph wind with water left and right. I felt like it was playing 190-195, and I wasn't comfortable hitting a full 3-4 iron with hazard there. So I choked down on the hybrid. It was long, but gave me an easy pitch back on.

from 200 yards it an easy choice to use the 5w. although if its a tee shot, I might play the 4 iron to safely hit the fairway.

No need to apologize. Way over my head. I was just clarifying after you added the conditions.

It would have to be either a choked down 3w or a full on 4w. My 4iron shot is only good for about 180 or so. Funny you brought this up, yesterday I had a 191 yd par 3, I dreaded it because I am not that good with that distance. Said screw it & used the 4w & it worked great, actually landed dead center on the green & then rolled towards the back but stayed on the green...barely. Total yardage was in the 195 range.

Same as you.

If I need the "roll" a 4 iron. If I need the "carry" my #3 Hybrid.

Used to be a 5i pushing it maybe a 6 but Idk what's been happening lately... Right now its an ok struck 4 Iron. Again all depends on the wind, played a 180 par 3 yesterday and hit an 8 Iron with the wind... 15 feet so I mean it always changes. One day a par 5 could be Driver, Driver, 6I or Driver, FW...

In that case, plain jane 200 yds. I'd hit the 3 Hybrid.

I think we should add to this thread - what percentage of the time do you expect to pull the shot off?

for me? 50%
I like this distance a lot more since I started playing hybrids. The 190-210 yd. par 3's were just killing me. I feel pretty confident with this shot now, I feel like I'm going to be on or in close vicinity of the green on a high percentage of them.

Hmmm, good question on success rate though. I expect to pull off 100% of them but probably actually do somewhere between 50% and 75%.

5 Wood.

Most people I see play talk about knockdowns, fades, etc. Yet the have a tough time keeping the ball in play.

Just hit it straight.

Sorry to rant.

5 wood for me, I just try to hit it straight.

19* Hybrid or Grip downed 4 Wood depending on conditions.

Heck if there is a monster headwind, driver.

I'd love that shot. My 15° hybrid goes 210 when I hit it dead on the screws, so 200 is one of those comfortable shots that always come off perfect. You know the shot where you feel like you have a little too much club, so you take a nice, smooth, easy swing at it (what you know you should do every time, but you normally don't?) That's what it would take to get me 200, so I know it would come out beautifully. Now, if you asked me to go 210 or 190, I'm sure I'd blow my junk into the woods and never find it. But from 200 I could damn near put the ball in a hat box if you wanted me to.

I notice I'm using a hell of a lot more club to get there than most responders, though - I knew I was a slow swinger, but I didn't know I was that dang slow.

I can get a 4i there if i pure it...but since that hardly ever happens i lay off my 5w most of the time for that distance unless i am feeling froggy that day.

It is comforting to see so many other folks that also don't care much for this yardage. This used to be a yardage that I loathed but now it's alright.

If I'm swinging well (which I have been lately) this is a 21* hybrid shot. In fact I had one of these just the other day; good lie in the rough 200yds out to a mid pin, I landed just short of the green and came to rest pin high.

If I'm just swinging okay then the safe bet is choking down a smidge on the 5W.
