What is your 200 yard club?

I have seen this thread other places, and I am alway amused by how far people think they hit it. I rarely play with people that hit it farther then me, yet these beast exist in abundance on the internet. Since Shottalk is about the most honest golf spot on the net, I thought it should be asked here.

Personally?

Dry with a bounce: 4 iron
All carry: 20 degree hybrid

How bout choo?

From 200 I could hit a solid 4 iron, but I like to hit weird shots, knockdowns, etc. In the words of Kelly from TBB (forget which one) I like to "saute" it. I like to hit a really high cut 3 iron from 200, I can do that with the hybrid too.

Bounce/roll out : 5i
Carry: 4-hybrid

It's a tough call actually... I can carry the 4hybrid 200 pretty regularly, but I really have to hit the 5i to get 'er out that far. Need a strong (though not forced) release. Basically-- a good swing.

Much larger margin of error with the hybrid.

I hate this yardage so much and especially on a par 3. For me it would be a 3hybrid.

downhill with the wind and off a tee it's a 4 hyrbrid
normal - I'd probably try the 3 hybrid
into the wind I'm probably hitting the 4 wood

smarter thing would probably just be to hit the PW twice

Off a tee (Par 3 or position shot on a Par 4)... 3 Hybrid. Hit it fairly high, land it soft.

From the fairway and a decent lie... possibly a 4W or 5W, especially into a Par 5 if there's no trouble in front. If I need all carry, probably the 3 Hybrid.

If it's into the wind, definitely the 4W or 5W. Possibly my 2 Hybrid if I've got it in the bag that day. Downwind, a 4 Hybrid.

200 yards is a "depends on the conditions and what kinda trouble is there?" shot for me. I may hit any one of 4 or 5 different clubs.

If I'm right on the 200 marker its a smooth 4 iron. If the pin is in the front of the green 5 iron and if the pins in the back of the green I choke down a 21* hybrid sometimes or just rip a 4 iron. I don't really like this yardage.

It's kind of a "stock, flat, no wind" kind of question. You're facing a straight forward 200 yarder. In the fairway. There is no wind. There is no advantage to work it either way. The pin is in the dead middle. You need a 200 yard shot. You're swinging it well, and don't feel the need to punt you're three wood in there. Its 200 yards.

I agree - it's probably the shot that creates the most doubt in my mind before I get to the ball - so if there was ever a shot I needed to commit more to, it's this one

I think we should add to this thread - what percentage of the time do you expect to pull the shot off?

for me? 50%

In that case, no "saute-ing". Just a solid 4.

It's between my 3 and 5i but my 5i is delofted to 25.5*. 3i carry is a little over 205, 207 best I can figure. 5i is about 190-192. I'll base a 200yd. shot on the lie, elevation, wind, green ect. My avatar is actually me hitting the 3iron. That was a 207yd. par 3 and I hit to about 8-10 ft. from the hole.

I've never played this great game under those conditions - it sounds incredible though
