    Distances increase with experience?

I would assume so up to a point when age may limit what you can do. I am no bomber & never ever will be, last year I was hitting my 8 iron about 120 yds, 5 iron maybe 155, etc. Now this year I have really been conectrating on my itons & while I still have brain lapses & feck up a shot every now & then, I have noticed my distances have increased the more I play & the better I get. Today I was hitting my 8 iron just a touch over 140 & my 5 iron is up to 170+. Fairway woods have increased as well, except for my driver, still stuck in the 220-240 area with an occasional lucky assed shot that at times has hit 270.

Anyone else see similar improvements? And no i don't need anyone coming in & telling me I hit like a girl & they can hit a PW further than I can hit my 5 iron.

Those are getting to be decent numbers. Distance is the result of a good swing, delivering the clubhead at maximum velocity to the ball, whilst still striking it as close to the center of the face as possible. Experience absolutely has a lot to do with that.

  3. I've actually seen a slight loss in distance but way up in avg. distance. I'm swinging smoother than I used to and controlling the ball. I still have the distance and it's actually longer than before if I tune it up. Yesterday with the rock hard greens I started nailing a few clubs. Hit a 7i from 189 on a par 3 but pulled it a bit, pin high but left fringe, easy chip and a putt. The from the rough I had about 135 and knew I had to hit it very high. I actually hit a GD Sandwedge and it landed on the green and stopped.

So, I know it's still there if I want it but I prefer to control it more know. It makes sense though that you should see a distance increase with more center face strikes and a more repeatable swing. 270 is pretty darn good. That's longer than my well struck drives fly.

  4. The same force on the right swing plane, versus a common beginner swing plane, is DEFINITELY more productive. A good golf swing is about efficiency, not just force. You have to deliver the highest amount of force to the ball you can be limiting power leaks in the swing. The better you get, the more concentrated your attack on the ball is. I'm glad you're getting the distance you deserve.

Don't give up on driving 250+. You may never average 270 or 300, but with the right driver and shaft, even seasoned citizens can poke it out there. The Cleveland Launcher 460 ti (titanium, not composite) driver is SERIOUSLY long, and you can buy one very cheap nowadays. Be a little patient and you can get an NV shaft in it instead of the nonsense stock one. The NV works wonders for some, so it's worth a go.

I just wish I knew what the heck I did on those shots, has happened 3 times total & everytime it was a very low trajectory & just screamed. Right now I am happy if I can pound them out to the 240 or so mark, but I also know that even if I screw up the drive some decent iron work can save the day easily. The driver is so over rated in this game, today I used my 3 w for driving & I am only good with that to maybe 210-215 sometimes a bit longer & it worked out just fine.

Accurate irons, a decent short game & putting are all you need.
