To go from the worst nine of the year Thursday (see "wish me luck" thread) to THE BEST NINE OF MY LIFE!
I don't understand but don't care.I just played the most satisfying round of golf in my life.
I could do nothing wrong. No shanks just one pure shot after another. It was scary and I kept waiting for the "crash" but it never came. Driver was in the middle of the fairway (230-250 due to wind). I don't care that I didn't hit it 300 yards. Today I didn't have to. 3-wood was straight down the middle (at least 200). Irons were ON the pin (and the green). Chipping was "good enough". And putting was "lights out"....
And I have witnesses. Shot 36 on a par 35. Front nine.
South Hills Country Club
You don't have to read but I HAVE to give a hole by hole account.
Hole 1 (394 yard par 4)
Driver 230 down right side of fairway (into the wind). 3-Wood left of green. Chip on and 2 putt for bogey.
Hole 2 (359 yard par 4)
Driver 250 right down the middle. Iron just off back of green. Chip on but not close. Two putt for bogey.
Hole 3 (326 yard par 4)
Driver 240 right down the middle. Wedge ON the pin. Tap in bird.
Hole 4 (102 yard par 3) Sound easy right? Water in front and HUGE tree right in front of green. You have to hit it HIGH.
On the green and made long bending putt for another bird!!
First time I've EVER got two birds in a row I think.
Hole 5 (409 yard par 4) Goes uphill.
Perfect drive 230 down center. Hybrid short. Chip on. Two putt for bogey.
Two birdies followed by a bogey. I'm in Heaven.
Hole 6 (360 yard par four)
Perfect drive 230 in the middle. Iron on. Two putt for par.
Two birdies followed by bogey - par. Now I'm really in shock.![]()
Hole 7 (208 yard par 3) uphill
I took the driver on this. And I was just left. I chipped on the fringe and made the long 40 foot par putt.
Hole 8 (515 yard par 5).
Perfect drive 230 down the center. Shorter 3-wood then usual but straight. Iron on the left side of the green. Two putt for another par.
:shocked::shocked::shocked:
Hole 9 (407 yard par 4) river accross making a good second shot necessary. Hit my driver only 220 but straight (into a 20 mph wind). Left myself a risky shot over the water. Hit the 3-wood over the water but barely. Wedge on the green. One putt (edited) for (gulp) another par?
I'm thinking "no one is ever going to believe this" and you all probably don't but this one day is why I've fought this game all my life. This is FAR more satisfying then my ace two years ago. This could be the best golfing year of my life!
