I put 2 into the water at Sawgrass 17!

Played this course yesterday. Tour 18 Dallas

It's a recreation of a variety of famous holes, and was a blast. Course conditions were great, but it got up to 97 so we were beat at the end.

The thing about most of these holes was that they were all very challenging around the greens, and some were downright devious. Until you've looked at the skinny green at Augusta #12, or tried to carry the water & hit the green on the blue monster you can't get a feeling for where the pros play.

Sounds fun. What did you shoot, Tex?

They used to have a course (Golden Ocala) with some famous signature holes open to the public up in Ocala that I played once back in the 90's, but is since gone private. It was a lot of fun playing amen corner and some of the famous Scottish golf holes. I know a lot of folks despise such courses, but I found it quite a fun place to play.

I played TPC Sawgrass back in the mid-90's. I actually hit the 17th on my first try, everyone else in my group got wet.

Don't ask me about 18 though.

I kind of like the "clone hole" courses too. I wouldn't want to play them all the time, I think they are kind of disjointed because there are so many styles of holes on one course. But for getting a feel for some of the famous golf holes of the world they are pretty cool.

Very cool golf course. I would love to play there some day. Ending a round on "Amen Corner" would be great fun. That place definitely reminds me of Goldern Ocala, which had it's own "Amen Corner". I thought it was brilliant.

That course looks like a blast to play! Have to make the trip sometime!

Got to take my honeymoon to Sawgrass last year... 2 rounds, both days in the water on first shot lol

We were (of course) playing from the championship tees, so I shot an embarrassingly big number (110), but I'm actually pleased with my game on those holes. For most of them you really had to thread a needle to hit the green. I don't have the card and can't give you many specifics, but only had one quad - mostly doubles & triples. I was hitting driver well, but when a decent drive for me is 220, and then have 250 left to the green, par becomes pretty tough.

On Sawgrass #17, the pin was right behind the little bunker and we had a 20 mph headwind. Just like the first day of the Players a couple of weeks ago. It was only 125, the pros were playing it with pitching wedges, I hit 7i and the wind still slapped it down and right off the edge. My 3rd from the drop area ran off the back, my 5th (also from drop area) snugged up close enough to get me an honest 6 on a 125 yard par 3. I won that hole.

I wimped out and layed up on Augusta #12, then won the hole with a bogey. It's only 150, but really tough to see the green. I also bogeyed 615 yard Firestone hole, with a mediodre drive and 3 decent (and one chunk) fairway shots to get on in 5 and one putted.

On Doral #18, I lined up right to try and pull one left over the water (250 yard carry) and was about 2 yards short. I then bladed my third shot into the water trying to lay up. My 5th hit a bunker, I lost this hole.

This was also my first round with the AP1's, looks like my short irons are a little longer & my long irons are a little shorter.

Silly Texan, playing off the champions tees.

I will stick with the whites until I can consistantly score below 80.

Of course, by the time I figure out how to do that I will be qualified for the yellow tees.......

Looks like a great course, we might have to make it a contender for the Shot Talk Open if we ever can drag enough people to one location at the same time.

Even tattooed Canadians who got lost in Vermont are welcome any time.

I can't guarantee a Santa Clause holding a peppermint stick, and you'd have to settle for Fajitas instead of stone crabs, but we can find a Shiner or 2.

I've already told SWMBO to expect me to go to VT, Mass & RI in Sept - is that still on the table?
