Port Fairy Club Championships

Well after opening with probably the best 80 of my life in the first round on a day with 60+ MPH winds and 3 inches of rain recorded I shot a mediocre 77 in a 1 to 2 club wind in the second round (with 4 birdies and 3 doubles, OUCH!!) to lead the champs by a single shot.

The action concludes with rounds on Saturday and Sunday, weather not meant to be too bad for this weekend.

Wish me luck for my first championship win since '02. This would mean a lot to me after being screwed over by my old club in the championship final last year. Long story short my brother (who plays off 2) and I left the club after that debacle and have been itching to show them what they're missing. Fingers crossed...

Good luck man. The places I golf aren't fancy enough to have club championships.

Port Fairy...Is that near San Francisco?

Not that there's anything wrong with that.

Not that there is anything wrong with that at all.

Fortunately for me, no.

Well, I ended up losing by one single, solitary stroke after my opponent dropped a 30 ft putt on the last. My 6 foot par putt to tie him somehow failed to break even though my shot out of the bunker turned a foot on the way past the flag.

So with two final rounds of 76, 76 (for a 309 total) I fall one short. I gotta hand it to the young kid that beat me though. An excellent 73 on the Saturday to draw level with me and was 1 over the card through 15 on Sunday before two late bogeys under pressure. For a 16 year old he played with the maturity of a 35 year old.

This one hurts more than a little and should drive me fairly well to win next year. Here's hoping....

Too bad LH, sounds like you were competing to the end though, at least you put yourself in the position. Fair play to the young lad as you said.

That is true. He played very well. Shouldn't expect too much from my first champs there I suppose. I was there until the last putt which is a lot better than all the others.

Well put IG.

I might have seen him there...

Would he wear a pastel pink shirt with aqua blue pants?
