Where to play in the UK?

So - after having helped out one of my suppliers BIG TIME today - he basically said "which course do you want to play?!".

Of course - I flippantly said Augusta National, so he narrowed down my choices to English courses. Pretty much have my pick. I was considering some of the obvious, like:

Wentworth - West
Belfry - Brabazon

and he also suggested Sunningdale.

I could go for something really tough like Royal St George, but i DO want to have a chance of playing fairly well too! He's an ex-challenge tour pro - so still fairly handy

What say you? Ideally no further north than Brum.

Wentworth is £325 a round in summer, sting the for that!!

Personally I would choose Birkdale and play it before the Open

It's only £285 in the summer

anyhow - I really like the guy, and the company - so don't want to just find the most expensive course. I really want to play somewhere pretty exclusive/expensive - somewhere I wouldn't otherwise get to play, but that's also a fantastic course.

He mentioned playing both Sunningdale courses - could be fun?!

If you venture a little futher North there are some great links courses between Liverpool and Blackpool. If you come up the same week as the Open you could play sumwhere close by and have a day at the Open as well.

You have Royal Liverpool(Hoylake), Royal Birkdale (don't think you'd get a game here Open week) & my personal favorite Royal Lytham & St.Annes. You also have some other great Links courses such as Formby, Hillside, Southport and Ainsdale, St.Annes Old links and Fairhaven.

I'd go along with his suggestion of Sunningdale.

There is the old course at Goodwood if that's a valid option or Liphook in North Hampshire. Neither that far away from you and proper courses.

Being a Liverpool fan you should come up and play Hoylake and Southport & Ainsdale. Last time I played at S&A we were stuck behind Ronnie Whelan & Jason McAteer. It was january/febuary, Liverpool had just lost a game and some fella approached Ronnie on the putting green and asked what he thought was wrong at Liverpool, he just turned round and snapped 'the manager'!!! The place is riddled with ex Liverpool players. Just go in the bar afterwards and you'll meet some of your hero's from the eighties, think King Kenny (as you call him) is a member there as well.

Brum is short for "Birmingham" (not the Alabama version )

The Brabazon is the name of the Ryder Cup course at the Belfry.

I would agree with playing Birkdale just prior to The Open. Both courses at Sunningdale would be pretty sweet as well and would make for a brilliant day..

I think I'm going to go with the Sunningdale suggestion. Should be a tough test - but not like a hard-core links course, that can just kick your ass.

Love the old course at Goodwood - played a couple of times, but want something sort of never-to-be-repeated.

have to remember to take the camera, and post some pics
