Your "Tiger" shots

One shot per post. Let hear about a shot you pulled off that seemed almost impossible at the time. Keep the luck to a minimum. Sure, you might have gotten a good bounce of a hill that kicks the ball onto the green, but no "It hit three trees, then bounced off the bird and dropped straight into the hole!" shots...

I'll start. Last Saturday, I pulled a 4-wood 200 yards down range and 60 yards left into a parking lot, and it bounced off a fiberglass carport, caroming back across the road, ending up in the rough next to the road. I could see clear through a bunch of trees to the green, which was about 165 yards away. I needed to hit the ball low, and carry the ball 130 yards over a big pond. The green was guarded by a bunker on the front left.

A guy driving by in a van had seen my ball land, then pointed it out to me, and had stuck around. He said, "Are you actually going to try to pull that shot off?"

I said "Yep." And proceeded to hit a perfect 5-iron through the trees, clearing the water, on a bee line for right edge of the bunker. It hit the false front just right of the bunker, popped up in the air, hit the green, and rolled to 10 feet.

The guy in the van, said, "How the heck can you hit one shot so bad, then hit an amazing shot like that?"

I said, "That's golf."

made a great shot yesterday. Pulled my drive that put me about 135-140 out, but had some tall pine trees between me and the green. My buddy said to just try to bump and run it between the trees and see if I can get it in front of the green.Well, I didnt like that plan, could have hit a tree or something. I said I'm going to go over them. He said theres no way I can get a the ball up that quick, I said yes I can. Great shot, over the trees, on the green. ,...two putt for par.

First time playing a course 8th hole on the front(only played the front) is a LONG par five - almost 600 yards - the sign said the hole was striaght allthe way so i lined up straight and pounded it with a slight draw and ended up on the left side of the fairway. When i crested the hill on the fairway(that was hiding the rest of the hole) i realized there were trees gaurding the left side of the green and its best to play the hole from the right side of the fairway...o well. I get up to it and i dont remember what distance was left to the green but i know it was well out of 3-wood range and i cant hit driver off the deck...

So i proceeded to aim for the right hand side of the fairway to give myself a clean shot at the green. Took a nice swing and that ball came off the face of that 3wood like it had never done before...straight down the line i wanted it to but it was going WAAAY too long and i thought it was going ot end up in the trees on the right side of the fairway. As it approached the trees that i was trying to lay up for, it started drawing and drew right into the gap and rolled up onto the green.

Even though i didnt mean to hit that particular shot it was the most beautiful perfect shot i had ever hit. Of course i played it off like "I meant to do that"

--Oh yeah, i ended up with the most ugly downhill putt i had ever seen for my first ever eagle putt ran it off onto the fringe, layed the next one about 5 feet short BUT i sank the par putt!!!

I recall being on vacation when I was 16. I had hit fairways and greens all day, and was playing well. My personal best was 38 at the time, and about 78 for 18. We're playing some resort course in Virginia Beach. Me, my Dad, Uncle and Cousin. I could beat the lights out of the uncle and cousin, but not my Dad, whom I had beaten just once before that.

18th tee I hit one into the right rough, he is center of the fairway. We are even at 4 over, he knows it, I know it. I have a tree right between me and the green, a big one, about 20 yards in front of me.

I have been a left to right player exclusively my entire life, and this tree has me stymied big time. My normal ball flight would be into the middle of the tree, and no way I can go left around it... to big of a cut even for me. I decided to try to draw the ball. My weak left hand grip and strong right hand grip I had as a kid made this a near impossibility. Even on the range, my draw attempts were merely pushes, or push cuts. My club path was down the line or even outside in just a touch... another strike against me.

I line up correctly, aiming my shoulders right, feet right, hips the same and keep the clubface square to the target, and let it rip with a 6 iron.

I flush it, and it starts to draw beautifully...... carving right at the pin. Light an arrogant 16 year old, I pick up my bag while the ball is still in the air, look at my Dad, and start walking.

It ends up about 15 feet. I still remember the immense satisfaction of having pulled the shot off. My Dad hits his to about 30 feet (a poor shot, but I say he was rattled!!!). He of course misses his put, I drain mine dead center for a birdie, a 37 on the back, 75 on the day, and the win over the old man.

This shot was TWENTY years ago, but I still have it vivid in my mind. Such is the one career right to left shot for a fader like me.

Playing the 18th par-5 several years ago. Wasn't having a good day. Tee shot went short right. I was mad and swung a 3-iron as hard as I could and shanked that short left. Next shot was in the rough, 180 yards over water. I pulled a 4-iron and smoked it. 2 bounces... roll... disappeared. Holed out for eagle

Hole 3 at my home course is a dogleg right, downhill par 4. It plays 363 from the white tees, but due to the fact that the entire hole is downhill and the fairways are very tight and hard from the drought the past few years I can normally fade my 3W through the dogleg and end up well inside 100 yards for my second shot. That's the way I always play the hole, because every other time I swing I'm fighting the right side anyway, so letting one just go where it wants to is a welcome change, and on that one hole I really look like I know what I'm doing.

Of course on this day I was playing with my buddy who hits everything a mile, and when with him I always have a tendency to overswing trying to keep up. So I do, and my intentional fade turns into more of a wicked slice, and I end up in the woods right, just where the dogleg starts to bend. And there's a creek down there. Had I not been playing TP Blacks that day I would've just left it and dropped, but I'm not throwing away a $4 ball just to keep from climbing a hill. When I found the ball it really wasn't that bad. It was in the muddy creek bed, but it was sitting up at least 3/4 out of the mud, and there was no running water there. No OB markers so you can play from there if you're nuts. I could see that I had a relatively clear line out to the fairway, but it was parallel to the first portion of the fairway and there was a big tree limb about 10 feet off the ground. A sane person would have just popped it out to the fairway and finished with a normal approach, but I decided to go for it.

I said "all I have to do is hit one that barely comes off the ground and goes as far right as it does forward and I'll be on the green," to which he replied "should be easy enough - you do that all the time."

"Hey, thanks man. I'm slapping you when I get out of this creek."

I lined up and went for it. SPLASH! I had no idea where the ball went because I had to close my eyes due to the mud explosion that covered my face and clothes, but I could tell by my buddy's cheer that it was either very good, or very funny.

Once I climbed out of the creek I saw it - about 1 foot on the peanut-shaped green, right in the skinny part of the peanut. It was the most beautiful shot I've ever intentionally made. I went on to 3-putt for bogey, because I'm awesome at missing opportunities.

I've done this shot many times and twice in the last two years put it to one foot of the cup from over 100 yards out UNDER some trees. Usually on the green.

Sometimes I could hardly stand erect enough to hit it. The lie has to be reasonably good, not up against a tree trunk etc.

I take my 3-iron, de-loft it and punch/chip it with locked wrists and it flys low about 50-70 yards and RUNS like mad. It's saved me many times.

This shot happend around a year ago at a local public course.

I hit a poor tee shot, followed by a poor 4 iron, followed by an OK 7 iron into the fringe, about 70 feet from the cup. My putting was horrbile so i decided to chip it. It went about 40 feet in the air, and then looked just like a putt. Dropped dead-center for a par save. My friend and his dad, were hitting their approaches so they didnt see me. They didnt believe me either

I would consider it more of a phil shot because of his incredible short game but I made a sweet up and down 2 weeks ago.

I was at the bottom of a hill about 8 yards to stick. the green was sloped away from me and the flag was about 10 feet from the short side. I hit a flop and landed it just off of the green in the fringe (exactly where I pictured it). ended up a foot from the flag for a tap in par.

I like to think that is why I play golf. you can shoot an 85 but have one shot per round that you feel no one else in the world at that moment could make.

Wow. What a great shot! I'm a little confused though. Were you a foot on to the green. And then 3 putted? Or did you 3-putt from a foot out?

No, he didn't say how far he was from the pin, he said that he was 1 foot onto the green, not one foot to the pin.

My bad - I was a foot onto the green, but still had like a 20-foot putt over mountains and valleys and all kinds of nastiness. I was just happy to be on the green at all

Holing a Wooden Ping 1+ Driver on the 6th hole at Hesketh Golf Club as a junior for an eagle straight after a sextuple bogey!!!

In a playoff for the club championship I was in the high weeds (3 feet deep) 30 yards short left of a short par 4. My playing opponent took a safe shot to 20 feet and I play some sort of a flop shot to 6 feet. He lags it up, I have 6 feet for the club... and I miss the putt. Then lose on the next hole. The shot I hit was amazing though.

Mine was about 2 and a half weeks ago. I was even par thru 17. I come to 18. There is a reachable pond on the right. Just last week I was 1 over thru 17 and yanked my drive in the water. So I made sure not to hit it in the water and hit my drive in the left rough. I was about 155 to a back left pin guarded by a bunker. I chopped out a 7 iron to the middle/front of the green. I had a 50 footer for birdie and to shoot 1 under for the first time in my life. I really did not think I had much of a chance to make and rolled the putt. It broke from right to left. As it got close I thought it had a chance and eventually dropped into the cup for birdie and 1 under for the day.

I did not throw my hat or anything like that. I did raise my hands in the air though.
