Went out last night for 18 holes after 4:00 p.m. with ejdahl21. Haven't had mosquito issues anywhere else but played at Brighton Dale and there were literally CLOUDS of mosquitos, and me in my shorts with no bug spray. It got so bad it was near impossible to make a shot. Any amount of shade near trees was terrifying.

BUT I've been up to Canada a couple times fishing and those frickin black flies are the most evil biting insect on the earth and Canada's deer and horse flies are a close second. I believe you can get very sick from black fly bites. I don't know why we don't have them in Wisconsin but sure am glad we don't

In any case, bring out the DEET!!!

I am so thankful we don't have biting flies in WI. When I was in Michigan last week, I was basically eaten alive. They take chunks out. If you stand still at all, you're dead. To make matters worse, they apparently love deet and can't get enough.

Getting hit by lightning? Or consumed by ravenous, biting insects.

I'll take the lightning for $1000, Alex. (At least lightning doesn't itch...)

Keep it very heavily Rain-Xd and they don't stick quite as bad. It's not a miracle cure, but it at least helps a little.

I learned all about biting blackflies and deerflies when I lived in Beaufort. Thank God we don't have them here in Florida. We do have no-see-ums, which are a BITCH, though thankfully not in Tampa. In fact, since I've been in Tampa for the past 14 years, I don't think I've seen more than a few mosquioes (except when I go hunting.) Every so often I'll run into skeeters playing golf, but it's pretty rare.

There's something to be be said for paving paradise.

No money. I was a Captain of a commercial fishing boat that I didn't own. I could see that fishing was a dead-end street (unless you owned a boat outright.) So I moved to Florida and got a job with Anheuser-Busch.

Here in Mississippi we don't have that big of a problem with flies. However, our state bird is the mosquito. They have been rumored to have carried off small children. And the further south you go, the bigger and more plentiful they become. I played in a tournament in the southern part of the state a while back and went through a whole bottle of OFF. And they still ate me up.

As most of you, we've lots of mosquitos at our local venue. Deep Woods Off seems to do the trick with them. The past two years, the mosquitos have been "complimented" by swarming gnats. These gnats bite!! They will swarm you if you bother to stand still. And... Off or Cutters seems to be just like candy to them. The more insect repellent you use, the more the gnats like it!

We've found two things that seem to work. Vanilla and Absorbine, Jr. A cheap "girlie" fragrance from WalMart in a Vanilla fragrance seems to turn off the gnats. And, I would rather use that than Absorbine, Jr.

One of the posters mentioned Listerine. Just heard about this at a grandchild's birthday party a couple of weeks ago. Daughter's Mother-in-law (she knows everything... just ask her) was saying she buys the cheap generic Listerine at the Dollar Store. Mixes it with a little water and puts it in a spray bottle. She says it keeps off mosquitos, etc. Once this current aerosol of Off is exhausted, I plan to try a little Listerine with my Vanilla. (Getting more difficult to convince the wife I'm actually playing golf and not frequenting the local rendition of the Chicken Ranch!)

Not sure which bleeds you worse, mosquitoes or the "Chicken Ranch."
