Seniors walking and playing from the tips! Frustrating!

My buddy and I got paired up with 2 seniors probably in their late 70s or early 80s. These guys were both walking and wanted to play from the tips. So Ok we deal with this for 9 holes and on the 10th their buddy is waiting for them and this guy is even older and maybe drives the ball 100yds. We said screw this and decided to go on our own and pass these guys up. It must have been friggen senior citizen day or something.

Well, funny enough, yesterday I played with two 86 year olds. They didn't play tips, but they kept pace and did well, walking.

I get the "senior" coffee at McDonald's every morning for 25 cents. I get senior discount when the wife and I eat at a "gummers" Sizzlin' Sirloin, or similar, buffet. Children are older than some who post on this board and have 5 grandkids. But...

Our group walks and is the first group off each Saturday and Sunday. I've got a bad knee and bad back. Yet, there aren't many folks out there who will play at the pace we do. The course knows we will set the pace for the day. We will play the 18 in just under 3 hours... walking... from whatever tee box that seems the order of the day.

There is nothing more enjoyable than having the opportunity to play with young flat-bellies who have amazing athletic talents... and watch them get frustrated when folks who may not be able to hit is quite as far as them end up scoring better at the end of the round. One must always remember, "It's not 'how', it's 'how many'!"

I have waited on folks much younger who think they are Tiger incarnate and have to exactly line up the 4th putt. I have waited on folks much younger as they search for tee balls in gunch 25 yards left or right... but, they did hit it a long, long ways!! Ii have waited on folks much younger who are riding in carts but can't keep a reasonable pace of play.

No, a golf course is no place for we seniors. Once we hit 60, we should sell the clubs and turn to checkers or knitting. Once we can no longer hit a ball 320 yards, like ALL those young flat-bellies, we should have the kids check us into the nursing home.

If you were ever to venture through our area, I would ask you to contact me to play a round... walking... from the tips... straight up... for a little cash, just to make it interesting. However, since we seniors have no business playing... or at least playing from the tips... I guess that won't happen. Too bad. I could use a little extra coin to supplement my social security!

Just this past week a pair of older gents smoked me on the course and they played at a very comfortable pace for me. I like getting paired with senior golfers; in my experience they have the best golfing etiquette of anybody.

Mine didn't. Nice couple of guys, but one of them was as inept as a rock.

One shot 74, the other 76. I didn't count their putts, but I'm sure both were in the 20's. Short game is where it's at. Pity mine is the weakest part of my game.

My 75 year old uncle has seen his index go from a 7 about ten years ago, to the 14 he is now. He plays from the white tees because he knows he doesn't have the length to reach par 4's in two unless he does.

I don't think WCD was ripping on older people (I'm getting to be one myself, and I'm certainly no "flat-belly," lol.) I agree with him that people (young, old, whatever) should play from the appropriate tees.

Whether you're 79, hit a driver 150 yards, and have a wicked short game, or you're 19, hit the driver 300 yards but can't keep it straight, you should play from tees appropriate to your handicap.

When I played alot at the course in Waterford they had many senior men and women (70's and 80's). Not once did they slow me down and you want to talk about some killer short games? The two women I played with shot around 90 for 18. And they're fun to golf with. Lot's of friendly jabs etc. Hey, I'm over 60. Guess I'll be called a senior soon if not already...

You go, limpalong!

One of the best golfers I have ever played with is a guy in his late 60's. Drives the ball 250+ yards, and putts lights out. Consistently shoots in the low 70s. Of course, it helps that he is retired and plays at least 1 round of golf every day.

About 5 yeras ago I played with an 80 year old man that whooped my ass. Think he shot like an 81 or something. It was the funniest thing ever... smoothe and straight and just plugged along. He even had some sort of super-tough plastic tee that he tied a string to with a piece of metal on the end. He would tee up and hit. On his follow through the piece of metal was actually a megnet and would stick to the driver. That way he didn't have to bend over to pick up the tee

Great idea! Too bad it won't work with today's titanium/carbon fiber drivers...

I think it's their right to play from whatever tees that they want. If they are holding up play, a marshall should ask them to speed it up, or let groups thru.

Please golf labels should never be about age or gender. Stereotypes are terrible. I played when I was young and when with my buddies we would get dirty looks all the time when we were 12 & 13. The funny thing is we walked and played faster than anyone. Also we would kick their a$$ all day long if they let us.

The only categories people should fall in are, slow play, bad manners, & general pain in the a$$es.

One of the owners of my company just turned 70 in May. He recently almost shot it age on a par 72. He came in with a 71. Heck until this season(the re-dedicate myself to golf season) I was the 3rd best golfer in a 31 person company when I played to an 8 or 9.

Age means nothing. Im a legit scratch, anyone here who has played with me can vouch. Played in a mini tour event and a guy who was 55+ and easily 30 yards shorter off the tee beat me by 8. Its all about 100 yards and In PERIOD.
