Irish v. Irish

Big ST match going down tomorrow.

Irish fancies his chances at taking on the might and firepower of Irish Golfer in his own back yard. The young lad from Dublin is braving a 150 mile journey North to discover what "real golf" feels like, not some knock about in a potato field.

All the technology he has Ho'ed over the past several months will be put to the severest of tests tomorrow morning over the Strand Course. Will the FT-i survive under the pressure? We shall have to wait and see.

So he will be nestling in to a local B&B tonight to begin his mental preparations for tomorrow. I may have to take him out for a few pints this evening to relax him before "the off".

Weather conditions tomorrow are excellent. Alas, invites were doled out to Andy_79, Teh Master and Dave_Ireland but they are busy so looks like it will just be the two of us, "mano a mano".

So who will win? You decide. Looks like Irish sports a 10 h/c, so that means he will get a very generous 6 shots, ie 3 a side.

Naturally photos and reviews will follow.

Let's get ready to Rumble.

I am going with the 10 capper. If he is anything like VT playing off 10 and shooting mid 70's, your screwed for sure.

Yeah, but remember I handed VT his lunch. Ball striking v. getting the ball in the hole are 2 very separate activities.

Actually I think young Irish sounds like a bit of a Hustler. But then again I've played Dave Ireland on several occasions and have leaned the "art of Sandbagging" at close quarters.

ahem...its 10.8 chief so thats a playing handicap of 11...thats 7 shots still though you must be a huge favourite as local knowledge must make up for at least a couple of shots per round..

Home court advantage! goes to IG! Used to (still do) lose to sssmokin at Waushara because he knows every break of any spot on every green since he was a member. I can take him on "neutral" courses or at least were equal.

Ah, Dave you crack me up!! Classic!

Sorry you can't make it up lad. It would have been good to have met up and seen you latest Fairway Fashion Fiasco, not to mention the latest Tour Bag offerings (all 24 of them!!!).

Well Mr IG, you proved yerself well capable in the fashionista stakes down in Headfort ... btw those breeks from our very first meet were only binned last month (they were never worn since 2005 !!)

No truth to the rumour that yer pulling 2 caddy carts around to accommodate yer ho's ?

A quick report. Great day yesterday, sun shone, light breeze, some sparkling golf. We teed off at 8am and walked off our 36th hole at 1.40pm, yes folks 5 hours and 40 mins for 36 holes. (We carted it round the 2nd 18, but still we were kicking ass!)

Irish is a great dude. We met up the evening before for a few beers / chat. We then got going bright and early on Friday. The lad has got some game making 7 birdies over the day. Not bad for an 11 index!! He can really hit his FT-i, most of the day he outdrove me. He played great in the morning round the championship course, shooting a 79 off the tips which was excellent given he had never seen the course before. He has no real weakness to his game, showing some great touch as well as length.

The 2nd round was a different affair, I think Irish got a bit tired. The Riverside is much shorter but the rough is 20 time worse. So a few balls went into the jungle.

I was inconsistent all day, some good, some bad. I have a massive match on Sunday, so I was trying a few things out, including my Odyssey Black putta. Didn't really hole anything but it rolls really wel. I got better towards the end and think I am all set now.

So who won the golf? Well we didn't play a match on the first round (otherwise Irish would have kicked my ass) but we played a match for the 2nd round. Modesty prevents me from telling you all who won.

Irish won the fashion contest. (Pics to follow) and he probably also won the Ho contest, some set of sticks he has there.

Great day, enjoyed it, especially as it is now raining heavily today. My missus is due in 10 days so that is probably my last 36 hole golf day for a while. Glad I spent it in the good company of Irish.
