I got a chance to sneak out to the local short muni for a quick nine. Its really short, a par 66 course that is under 6000. The front consists of 4 par 3's and 5 par 4's. I left all my woods at home, just went out with 3-pw, sw, and putter. Anyway, the place is packed, but the foursome waiting at the tee allowed me to jump ahead of them to join another single. +1 for them. I get up there, and a big dude with a stogie sticks his hand out. "I'm Chuck!". Pleased to met you, Chuck.
We tee off. I bogey one, a frickin' 250 yard par 4. Hole two, I hit a nice fade 4 iron just over the back. Can't convert the up and down. 2 over. "Nice playin'!" Chuck says. We talk. Talk about career, life, wives. I hit number 3, two putt. I hit number four, one putt for birdie. I hit number 5 in one, 230 yards with a three iron. Barely missed the putt. Chuck's gabbing all the way. "What's your handicap?" "Oh, I can tell you were a single!" "What clubs are you swinging?" You did these yourself? That's great!" You really love this stuff, don't you?!" I par 6, and 7, and 8. Duffed my tee shot on nine, a 393 par 4 dogleg left. Really the only hard hole on the course. Hit a nice 4 iron to 20 feet, 2 putt for an even par 34, irons only.
What a day. I played a fun round, and the best part. I got to meet a great guy from my area who loves the game, and is one of the nicest guys you'll ever meet. When we shook hands, he says "It really was a pleasure, and I hope we cross paths and play again"
Me, too, Chuck. Me, too.
