Usually take a small divot, not much, but if there is soft ground there will be dirt where my ball once was as opposed to grass. Very small but still a divot.

I consider myself a "brusher". Not picking clean, but not taking a noticeable divot. I usually leave a trail of chewed up turf, but I don't have anything to replace. At least half the time with wedges, though, I'll take a smallish divot. Usually if I'm trying to spin it.

So that's two (you and ualtim) with "divots like a 2008 Playboy." A nice little, concise, well shaped, nothign out of place, tiny little hairy divot.

Me, I'm sticking with the 1972 issues. Stuff all over the place, no two alike, some with more grass than others, but all of them (divots, people) with lots and lots of thick grass on em.

I'm a digger for sure. On par threes I like to look down and see my tee undisturbed, and a dollar-bill sized divot cut in front of it.

Too deep of a divot will lose clubhead speed and cause too much spin to control.

I've always tried to "pick it clean" or as you call it .............sweeper. My ball flight is sky high on all my irons. Tried to change years ago, and all that happened was I sprained my wrist.........LOL.

It usually just means I've swung too steeply (again) and tried to "hit" the ball.

Wait... you mean you guys do this consistantly?

If I hit 10 shots from the same lie with a pitching wedge... I'll hit it 10 different ways. Some deep divots (racoons have buried their dead in some of my divots)... some where my club didn't touch the ground (or the ball)... some where I sweep the grass at a 45 degree angle from where I was aiming (those are usually my most accurate shots).

But - I can't reproduce the same shot type of divot. Unless it's with a 3 wood. I can make the same divot with a 3 wood each time. 8 inches before the ball, the divot goes 10 yards and the ball is pushed 6 feet forward. Without fail.

no divot. but you can see where I hit from. I hit the ball high, higher than my buddies that take huge divots.

I take a divot with every club and it gets deeper as I move further down. With my 3 wood, it is a little sliver, but my assistant likes to say he can bury a dead cat in my 9 iron through lob wedge divots.
