Cast more expenseve than Forged irons.

I noticed a lot lately mainly because I've been looking at clubs more is that a lot of Cast clubs are getting very expensive almost hitting the 1K price tag. I think mainly due to the graphite shafts but there are some killer deals on forged clubs. The new Bstones J36 are dirt cheap on the bay.

So why not just buy Forged?

Some of us need the kinds of game-improvement features that can't be forged.

My irons are a compromise. They have a forged stainless frame, a welded cup-face, and a channel. Smaller head, not much offset, thin topline, thin sole, and more forgiveness than any purely forged cavity-backs can offer. And yes, they cost nearly $1K - with steel shafts.

Seems like it depends... my Forged AP2's were more expensive than the cast AP1's.

Low carbon steel used in forging is much cheaper then the stainless steels typically used in casting BUT the forging process is more labor intensive then casting so as far as "end cost to manufacture" the two it's probably a wash.

Ive been looking at both of those clubs. Both are kind of up there in price but I guess it just depends on what your looking for and the name.

Great points. I really never looked at the whole picture.

I hit about every club in the store into a launch monitor. Went with what I hit the best Well... actually it was a tie between those and the Cally x-20 Tour... both the same price.

Golf club pricing (and golf equipment in general) has less to do with cost of manufacturing and more to do with "what the market will bear". It doesn't cost anymore to build an Integra Quadratic driver head than it does a Callaway FT-i, the materials and construction techniques are virtually identical. Big difference in price to the consumer though.

Why can Callaway or Ping charge $1000+ for a set of irons? Because people are willing to pay it.

I suspect the reason cast clubs are getting more expensive is that many of the most popular clubs that are perceived as top quality by a lot of golfers are now cast. The manufacturers will keep inching the prices up until they quit selling as many. (I know I would )
