Need some swing advice...help wanted!

Hey all..really frusterated lately. About 4 weeks ago(last time until today I golfed at a course instead of hitting at the range). I was consistantly driving the ball about 230-250 yards and my balls tended to slice a little bit (playable though). My irons hit great..straight..great loft..great distance. Anyway, after that round a few days later I hit up the driving range and had a horrible time. My drives got NO distance...lucky if they went 100yards and my shots (irons or driver) would go to the left instead and my shots have never gone to the left before. Also, not nearly as much loft to my hits..almost like a high line drive. Anyway, went golfing at a real course today and..suprise...NO distance on any of my drives and my drives and irons consistantly went to the left and was not getting my usual distance. Like I said....before the last few weeks (for about 2 years) I would get great contact with the ball..great distance, and a tendancy to slice. Now...to the right and no distance at all. I had maybe 3 good hits today. Any thoughts or snything to try out at the range next time I go??? On a plus note...I 2 putted and 1 pujtted every hole, lol.

P.S Also, I wasn't using my clubs today..am visiting home from grad school and used my dads set...not that that would make any sort of difference.

This is useful imo - a common fault of getting jerky and losing tempo.

I love the running bit - I imagine MG running like that

think I figured it out

Hey all..think I figured it out. I started out with a really nasty slice (almost unplayable). I was able to have people take a look at my swing and I was totally starting my downswing with my arms...then my hips and shoulders followed...big no no. Anyway, to compensate, the pro at my local course suggested I focus on starting my downswing my rotating with my hips first. After tryign this...it worked...ball started goign straighter and what not. Anyway, I was swinging in my backyard after I posted the first post and my father (very observant and close to pro status) noticed that my hips came through waaay too much and my arms where behind my hips and shoulders instead of being square with them at impact.

I was exaggerating the hip turn to fix the slice. After my body got used to this and my swing got better...I didn't need to exaggerate it as much. The exaggeration cause the mishits and the shots going to the left...at elast thats the thought...makes a lot of sense to me. I can't wait to try it out at the range. Also, thanks for the video link...great tips! We all needed to be reminded of that every now and then! Any thoughts??

Best thing you can do is just drop the money and get a lesson from a Pro.

I think one of the best things someone can do is experiment with slicing and hooking. Meaning learn how to do both. Read a little and try it out. Go to the range and try to slice 10 shots in a row. Then try to hook 10 shots in a row. When doing that you learn what you are doing to make the ball slice or hook. Once you know that then all you have to do is swing in the middle. If you start doing one or the other you can quickly adapt to stop doing it.

Do you mean it will help or was that sarcasm as you couldn't see the link?

Hoping it was the former but fearing the worst.

This is a great tip, and one I've been working on myself.

I totally agree with you. When I'm on the range, a good portion of it is spent trying to hit different parts of the range (from right fence to left) but still standing aligned to the middle. I play around with pushes, pulls, slices and draws. I find it's a good way to know if what you think you're doing actually translates into where the ball will go.
