The worst Golf Channel commercial

My gawd there is some bad stuff on the Golf Channel that they play over and over and over and over. I watch a lot of GC during major weeks, but am praising my TiVo as I can pause the TV for 20 minutes and then fast forward through the crap.

My nominees for worst commercial on GC:

1. The Zach Johnson AEGON commercial. It just so fake looking. Fake fist pump, fake kiss of his baby, fake announcer "Zach Johnson, from Cedar Rapids, Iowa". Blah, blah, blah, it just bugs me.

2. The Bridgestone ball commercial with Will McKenzie and Matt Kuchar. Wow! These guys are wooden.

3. Those creepy Charles Schwab commercials on Champions Tour events. There are many with actors talking about investments like regular people. The part that I don't like is how they have "cartooned" them up. The actors are sort of painted over and kind of misshapen. They are always doing something like hitting balls or sailing or something. Just weird.

My favourite is probably the John Daly Winn grips commercial with the Purple Face. It just cracks me up for some reason.

Any other nominees or thoughts?

I don't watch a lot of TGC but it seems like everytime I turn it on either the Golflogix commericial with McCord or the Bobby Jones Hybrids by Jesse Ortiz is on. Does anyone actually sit there & watch the entire half hr of any of them?

The one I hate the most is the Callaway one with Johnny Miller. I don't even get it, why would hitting it again cost 2 strokes?

The TGW commercials are the best. Those crack me up.

Borrowing a club and putting you over the 14 club limit.

Actually it's a penalty just for borrowing the club, even if the guy started with less than 14. [I tried including a link to the rule, but it wouldn't let me since apparently I haven't made enough posts here yet.]

But that's a good point - I always assumed the "2 strokes" he was talking about was for rehitting again on the same tee.

We have a winner.... hell, I can get it out there pretty good, but if I had a hammer, I'd hammer in the morning, evening, he11, all over this freaking land!

Next video I take of one of my drives, I'm gonna play in back in super, duper, ridiculously slow motion, and pretend I hit it 1,256 yards too.

Should be great fun.

And the testimonials... from complete hacks some with the most ridiculous outside to in, casting the clubhead swings you have ever seen! Think Jim Furyk's backswing, only to approach impact on a WORSE plane than you took it back on. Puke.

Then they say..... "Golly, I've never hit one that far before in my life!!!" (That's me two stations down on the range muttering... "Yep, all the way to the ladies tee on the fly with that one Skippy!!"

And what is with the multiple references to Callaway dominating the Driver Market? I know the stupid commercial is old... but when a guy says "This hammer is a lot longer than my Big Bertha" I can do nothing buy laugh.....

Has anyone ever seen one of these on the course?

There are plenty of bad golf commercials but I have to say I really like the Cobra commercials.

They had a brand new looking Hammer down at the "1st tee" range. I was half thinking of trying it for the heck of it. What cracks me up about that commercial is they actally show most of 1 drive he hits and it's just a massive pull, like 100yds. left of where the green is. I heard he actually hits a ladies flex shaft, for real. He does get a ton of lag but it's a dead pull swing. What surprises me is that they actually sell enough of them to be able to spend the $$ on the commercial. I've never seen one on the course but did see a guy at the range with one a long time ago. He was very bad though, could have outdrove him with a shut down wedge.

I hope this isn't too far off topic.

It's not just on TGC, but the first time I saw the Travelers commercial with the Brit carrying the giant red umbrella, I thought it was interesting in a Tim Burton "Big Fish" kind of way.

But after watching 4 days (x 7+ hours/per day) of the that commercial occasionally interrupted by the British Open . . . if I ever see that guy and his umbrella, I'm going to punch him in the neck, take his umbrella, and beat him to death with it.

As for the worst commercial on TGC, I vote for whatever infomercial they are broadcasting when they should be covering the NCAA mens and womens regionals and championships, the Publinx, more LPGA, LET, or any other actual golf. It is the frickin' GOLF channel after all - not real hard to find appropriate programming.

As for the best commercial. Right now its the one for Highway 18.

There is lots of running in that one.
