Wi area Shottalk outing Fall 2008

As summer is rapidly flying by, I was looking forward to another great get-together. I haven't seen anyone taking the reins on this and if there is no objections, I would be happy to put this one together. Zaphod, sssmokin, WBL, Wi-golfer and others - Let me know and I'll get this ball rolling. As always, all are welcome. LyleG And Indacup hope you can make the trip.Let's make this the best outing yet.

Playing from the black tees on the island course sounds good to me. Lots of nice courses on the eastern side of the state. Get your butt handed to you at the Bull.

Eric, would you prefer we play a scramble or something else? I don't even know what other types of formats are out there & this is just my opinion but it would be cool to avoid the scramble this time.

I'm open to ideas. I thought the scramble worked well for different skill levels and kept everyone grouped for camraderie. Let's get some more input. Fire away guys.

I like the scramble format myself. We have golfers of all skill levels. This way it keeps everyone together...............just a real pleasant time. (Plus we aren't holding up anyone else on the course). I'm in for sure.

Why not "best ball"? We (two man teams) each play the hole and take the best score.

That doesn't sound bad.
What other sorts of games are there?
How's about match play & $10 a hole?

Well there are a ton of formats out there if you want to mix golfers of all skill levels and still have a good time. Here are just a few of my personal favorites:

Texas Scramble: Think best ball from the tee and then everyone for themselves from then on in. You can modify this to say that you can only take the best drive if your's is in trouble, ob, etc.

Modified Alternating Shot: Two man teams, both players hit from the tee, you take the better of the two tee shots and then you alternate from then on in. This is what they use for the father-son amateur here in NC.

Lone Wolf: Alternate honors every hole. Random draw on the first tee, but then if you hit first on the first hole you hit 2nd on the 2nd, and the person who hit last hits first. The person who is last to tee off is called the wolf. They have the option of selecting a partner for the hole (must make selection prior to their tee shot, and once someone hits you can not select them) or going it alone. If you go lone wolf the hole is worth double. From there on in it is a fourball tournament with either two teams of two for that hole or three against one.

If you like the sounds of any of these just ask and I will put up the full rules. These are my favorite three games, and usually when I play with some of my old golf team buddies these are the ones we will play. I wish I could join in this outing but I leave to go back to med school in two weeks, and I just don't get any breaks. Hope it goes well.
