Clones!! ......bad juju

Fact of the matter is that the factory manager in China who makes the odessy putter heads, may just run a few "clones" from the same molds / dies to put a little extra jing in his pocket.

What you get is an exact copy without the name.

Is it right? no.
Legal? certainly not.
Strictly defined, it may be theft of intellectual property or worse so personally, I don't buy clones.

I paid $175 for a white hot 2 ball.....long story short......I have an $85 Ping Anser now. With the possible exception of some Snake Eyes irons, everything I own is OEM.

excuse my ignorance, but I see this "OEM" a lot. But I've been too shy to ask until now...wtf does it stand for?

One other thing, I'm thinking that the fact that you posted this in 2 different forums means that you know what I say is true but you are trying to justify it.

If you like the 2 ball, save up the money and get the real deal. Buy used one even.

Slingy, did you mean to give a yay or nay to the purchase of a clone putter? I read some semi-relevant facts, a few pieces of possible trivia, but I was unable to find a clear answer. Maybe the knowledge of OEM would help!

I posted in 2 forums because at the time that was the only one of those I could find, and I posted there first, THEN remembered that more people frequent this board. I don't not-trust you, I was just under the gun. Turned out to be a water pistol.

Well, that's why I asked :-p. I'd certainly rather have a real one anyway, just need to fill up my piggy bank. I found a dime the other day, so at that rate I'll have enough in..

0.10 x 365 = 36.50
170 / 36.50 = 4.7

Just over four and a half years.. And I won't have enough for a calendar!

Do club prices drop drastically in the winter? I live in Central New York, there's not a lot of places it gets more wintery than here. There's DEFINTIELY no winter golf, so maybe I can snag one cheap then.

Get a used one.

I hated mine and traded it for the Ping Anser....someone ended up with it and they sure didn't pay $175 for it either.

OBagain is the used club guru.....I hope he chimes in on this when he gets a chance.

I don't know of anywhere around here that'd carry used things like that. There's no second-hand golf store around (to my knowledge), just a Dick's Sporting Goods and a Sports Authority. =\ I'm with you though, I think I'll get my hands on an authentic one, new or used. I'll go to the store tomorrow I hope and test them out to make sure I REALLY want it. (I don't make enoug in a week to afford this, so I best LOVE it, sleep with it, and have a love-child with it.)

ebay

I didn't like because it fooled me. I sank putts like nobody's business in the store. It worked ok for me for about 3 rounds then it was 3 putt city.

I changed my putting stroke a bit adding a more pronounced follow through....the wieght on the back of the 2 ball got caught on the green many times....choking my putt.

I now have no inserts and no crap hanging off the back of my putter. I'm old school now and while I can still 3 putt.....it's alot less than it was.

Hmm.. that's an interesting observation. It DOES have a rather crowded rear end.. Now that you mention your 'old skool' putter, doesn't Tiger use an old style putter too? I'll have to look into that, I suppose. I just prefer to have a bit more weight on my putter (the one I have now is a mallet with a really fat shaft and a LOT of headweight). I haven't found an old school putter with enough weight to tickle my fancy. In fact, most putters don't even know where my fancy is.
