I played Myrtle Beach National-West course and Possum Trot; both were very nice and under $40 including cart.

Cheap (low priced) courses would include:

International Club, Indian Wells, Burning Ridge, West Course, Southcreek, Quail Creek, Wicked Stick, Black Bear, Lion's Paw, Panther's Run, Waterway Hills, Azalea Sands, Possum Trot, Carolina National, Farmstead and Meadowlands.

Here is my trip report from 2 years ago:

Flew in from NY on Wed evening. Two of us. Checked into Legends Resort. Scheduled 5 courses thru Sat morning. Goal was to play a very different venue each round. Had to be careful to schedule courses fairly close as it gets dark around 6PM and we wanted to get in both rounds with no trouble. All courses had to be top notch, visually beautiful, great condition and challenging. Thurs was cold and wet. Played Heathland at Legends in the morning. Beautifully laid out links track and somewhat unique in Myrtle Beach. Designed by Tom Doaks, this course feels like the old sod. Just a blast to play. Very deceiving greens, great colors. One of my favorites and highly recommended. Got rained out at Man O War in the afternoon. Because we booked the whole thing thru Legends, Man O War credited the whole price back vs. issuing a rain check. No problems, very professional treatment. Ended up spending the afternoon at Martin's Golf Store. Incredible place if you haven't been. Drinks and dinner at T-Bonz on Rt. 17. Not great, but fine for a nasty night.
Friday started out wet, but cleared up by the 4th hole. We played Parkland at Legends. Designed by the Legends Group in the style of Alistair Mackenzie (Augusta) and George Thomas (Riviera). A very old time feel with modern length. Visually appealling and a very challenging course from the tips at 7170 yards at 74.9/136. More housing than last year, but in a private community. The homes are not intrusive and attractive for the most part so it doesn't take away anything from the course or its woodsland setting. The design director for the Legends Group for the Parkland track was Mike Strantz, who also designed Caledonia, True Blue and Tobacco Road. Good place to play. The afternoon round was at Arnie's King's North. I find this course just beautiful in every way. Every kind of hole, every shot in the bag required. Nice vistas from every vantage point. Wonderful conditioning from tee to green. Lots of water, but much of it is not in play and is more for esthetics...works well. Should be played when visiting Myrtle. Drinks and dinner at Angelo's Italian Steak House. Just perfect after a long day. Easy, acommodating, good food and terrific service.
Saturday we headed south to play TPC. Absolutely Spectacular. Expensive by Myrtle standards, but we felt it a bargain when compared to courses of equal quality, challenge, condition and stature elsewhere in the country. Play it if you want to experience the best of South Carolina. Designed by Tom Fazio with consultation by Lanny Wadkins. 6950 from the tips. We played the golds at 6600 with a 72.2/136 rating & slope. Fantastic hole layouts, scenic to the max and a terrific challenge in every way. The clubhouse is top notch with good food as well. This was my first time here and will be on my must play list for a long time going forward. Highly recommended.
Here's the deal: 2 guys at Legends in a really nice 2 bedroom, 2 bath condo including a huge breakfast every morning, a drink at night on the house and all practice facilities (considered one of the best layouts in Myrtle Beach). I picked the 5 courses. The entire thing inclusive of accomodations, greens fees, carts and taxes came to $479 per man (actually $422 after receiving the credit for our rain out). Remember, this rate was 2 years ago and during the winter. Legends is still considered one of the best values in MB. Also, they own a number of courses outside the facility as well like TPC and Oyster Bay so they can fix you up in a package deal. It was a great golf trip and worth every penny.
