I TC Chen'd It!

Just Friday, I caught a bit on the Golf Channel about the infamous TC Chen double-chip that included a commentator, I forget who, trying and failing to duplicate the "feat". The conclusion was that it was incredibly difficult to do even if you were trying.

Yesterday, I did it out of a bunker ( accidentally, of course ). I'm not sure how, and I'm pretty sure I can't duplicate it, either.

He popped a chip up and when he continued his follow through hit it again for a double hit. I believe it was in a Us Open when he was in the lead on the final day.

Done it a few times... It's quite easy if you know how... Just don't accelerate that much through it, from a fluffy lie, and follow through a bit...

T.C. "Two Chip" Chen. I actually remember that moment (though I can't remember if it was the US Open or PGA) because that's when I took up golf the first go around for a couple of summers. I usually two chip like T.C. at least once a year.

I two chiped out of my first bunker. But that was because the first didn't get it al the way out. Luckily it was the first of about a dozen practice shots I took because the people infront of us were really slow and noone was behind us.

Head exploded off after a fair amount of heat, but is still fully intact... Just waiting for the next shaft to arrive.

did it the other day playing a match for 2 dollar skins. Bogeyed the hole and lost the 5 skins. Not my finest moment. Not quite as embarrassing though as when I swung and missed in the same match. Club hit a tree branch on the way back, startled me and I pulled up over the ball. Hurt my shoulder too. Ah that was fun.

You made bogey with a two-shot penalty? That sounds like a good story!

I wonder what the story was there. I never even suspected that the clubs were reshafts.

A double-hit is not a two-shot penalty. It is one "stroke" (i.e. your intended hit) then ONE penalty for the second hit.

That is, if you were greenside in two and double-hit it out of the rough onto the green, you are now putting for 5 instead of 4. You have taken 3 strokes and one penalty (for the double-hit) to get there.

hell, i do that all the time when i try to do an easy chip onto the green. one time at the beginning of my learning experience of golf i didn't swing fast enough with my 64 and it just stayed on the club and ended up behind me lol

What about the penalty for hitting a moving ball? I think you are actually putting 6, not 5, in the scenario you mention above.

The group I play with plays no penalty, just count 1, as one guy (the highest handicapper) does it fairly often. Usually the ball ends up in a worse spot and behind him, so we feel that is enough. That and the ridicule. It is known as the Hewy Rule.

The way to do it, is to decel into the chip or bunker shot, panic, they make a late and fast follow through. The panic is the key.
