How do you take off a golf grip?

Can you just slide it off? Because i was going to get my dad to cut a 5-wood but i cant figure out how to get it off.

Only way I've ever taken them off is split them down the side with a razer blade and peel the grip off the tape. No saving the old grip though :/

Some times I have gotten lucky when blowing the grips off & actually saved it. Vast majority though get cut off.

3 ways to do it.

First is to cut it off with a hooked razor blade. You don't save the grip. Also the fastest.

Second, you can use compressed air. Sometimes works, sometimes not. Sometimes it explodes.

Lastly, you can use a spring rod Golfsmith.com: Golfsmith Spring Rod Grip Removal Tool - Golfsmith with LOTS of solvent and work the grip off that way. I can save about 95% of grips this way. Though it usually takes more than a few minutes to do.

If you don't absolutely NEED the grip, just cut it off. Fast and simple.

To be fair, this can be difficult for the regular person. Wi is just really good at blowing I guess.

No, he sucks them off.

I cut mine off. I have steel shafts on my irons, so I do not heed a "hooked" blade, which are used to take grips off graphite shafts without harming the graphite. A simple box cutter or a very sharp pocketknife/multi-tool will work as well.

If you decide to cut them off.... make sure you are cutting "away" from yourself... i.e. you hold the clubhead end under your arm with the grip facing down. Don't put the grip end in your crotch and cut towards yourself. You may end up damaging two different shafts that way.....

If you have a vice and something to protect the shaft from the vice... do that. I don't and have still changed my own grips a half dozen times or so.

I have a 4th way. It involves solvent, coathanger and a Big Gulp straw... just cut it off and get a new one.

Box cutter with a hook blade.

Grips are relatively cheap (or, at least not expensive enough for me to be wasting hours fartin' around trying to save the thing.) Cut it off, put the new one on.

If you have an old syringe lying around you can use that. Fill it with some petrol (gas to you americans) and inject it into the grip about 9/10ths of the way up. Slowly but firmly twist the grip and the gas will work it's way down and underneath the grip and VOILA! 1 saved grip.

If you can get hold of a glass syringe use this as the gas will eat away at the rubber seal of a normal plastic syringe over time.

Easy to do and saves you a fortune in grips over time...

The way gas cost, I'd say that sounds mighty expensive!

I jus cut 'em. I bought a roll of grip tape for $7 bucks, and a huge 1 liter bottle of grip solvent that smells like oranges for $8.

1 razor knife, and I can put a grip on in minutes.

5th way:

take to a local clubmaker, and it'll be done in about 3 minutes.
