| I personally think it is OK to have the right foot squared up or maybe even ever so slightly toed in, but I don't know what real swing gurus would say about this. For the swing I use, having a very slightly open stance is important to keep me from blocking shots to the right. Parallel left and open are the two stance options that work for me. A closed stace and/or a spayed right foot (toe more to the right than heel) do not work for me. I cannot clear well doing that.
However, realize that many teachers perfer the right foot slightly toed to the right to facilitate a 90 degree shoulder and 45 degree hip turn on the back swing. I like a full shoulder turn and as little hip turn as possible because I want the fastest hip clearing move I can make. There are lots of ways to hit a golf ball.
One last thing... it is vitally important not to get the club trapped behind you (as happens when you come inside on the backswing too quickly) if you are going to be a quick hip clearing type ball striker. Great swings of this type keep the club more in front of the player to avoid betting trapped because the only escapes from an inside take away and loss of connection is to come over the top and pull the shot or never get back and push the shot. You cannot get a full, free right side release when you get trapped or blocked. Well, that is not exactly right... you can release an over the top swing and pull the crap out of the ball, but I think you know what I mean.
