Well----I have dropped 80 pounds since last November 255 lbs to 175 lbs. I'm 6'0" tall. My game has vastly improved mainly due to better balance. Also have been working on "CORE" muscle exercises which again has helped my balance.

I use a personal trainer and we focus on core body strength and flexibility -- and the trainer knows I want to emphasize exercises that support my golf addiction.

We do a lot of preventative exercises for the back and the rotator cuff, and more ab work than I like.

One of the best things we do is a twisting exercise that requires opening the hips before swinging the arms. The exercise is done two ways. One with a belt around my waist affixed to a cable which leads to a pulley with a weight on the end of the cable. The other uses the same cable machine but using a golf grip on a handle to swing and lift the weight up. I swing both left handed and right handed directions starting each twist from a golf posture position and swinging both a back swing and downswing -- back and forth, with no stopping. I usually do sets of 25 four times. Weights vary, but you only need about 15 pounds with this many reps. Very tiring.

Flexibility work includes the normal stuff and also stretches that move the hips to a 90 degree angle to the shoulders -- very hard for me.

I've been doing a combination Cardio and Yoga workout. I initially did it trying to help keep my wife motivated to do it, but I quickly realized the increased stamina and stretching was helping my game.

Damn Zaph! And I was proud of myself for dropping 30 pounds (240 to 210; 6'4") last year. Good job. I'd love to be sub-200 again.

How'd you do it? Jimmy Tango's Fatbusters?

?

EDIT: Weird. I pasted the link and it automatically embedded the Google video.

Recently bought WiiFit. I haven't had it very long, but it seems like it'll be great for balance and core strength. It's all yoga, strength exercises, and balance games.

Fun, too. My wife and I have had to tell our 6 year old son to take a break from yoga, watch some TV or something.

Golf fitness should focus on long, lean muscles meaning weight training should be done with light weights and high reps to keep bulk down which will limit your flexibility and your golf swing will suffer.

Core workouts are key for any sport(and life in general) but especially for golf. But again, dont be doing declined situps with a 45lb plate on your chest...

in highschool i had an addiction to bench press...and at my peak i was pressing over 250...which was hell when i started playing golf as all that bulk had little flexibility...but all the core workouts i did were very helpfull for a powerful golf swing.

Core, core, and more core.

Mix in a ton of stretching and some yoga and you'll get your game to a whole new level in no time at all.

I drink light beer so my belly doesn't get in the way of a proper address position. That's about it.

Ok guys, what's a core workout focus on?

No, I'm not currently working out for golf...or any other reason. Manage my weight, walk some, that's about it.

Specifically for golf? No.

I do, however, run and swim.

Back, abs, and the little stabilization muscles in between. I do some work with free weights but I use a stability ball instead of lying/sitting on a bench. You need to incomporate your entire body just to do a silly fly or curl.
