Thread: blades vs cavity, forged versus cast....thoughts...

  1. rock. i have experience playing(not just having) blades, shovels, and small cavity-back clubs. I find the best clubs for me are the small cavities. Clubs like the Mizuno MP-33's and Nike Forged blades that i had offered very little forgiveness distance-wise on mishits, but they held the same line. Shovels like the X-16's and MX-15's tended to do very well distance-wise on mishits, but i tended to spray shots. The inability to work the ball or consistently hit it on the same line really aggrivated me, not so much the lack of feel. However, i am very partial to clubs such as Titleist 690cb, Hogan Apex Edge Plus, Mizuno MP-30, Cleveland TA3(my current clubs), TaylorMade 300 forged, and other similarly designed clubs. They offer enough feel and shot-shaping ability to suit my 6 handicap, but they also allow me to be less-than-perfect without ending up 30 yards short. And i have never had problems with spraying shots like i do with shovels. Give em a shot! JMO, Neal

Not sure but the contest info puts a value on them of $1200.00 US so the real price will be less than that. I wouldn't be surprised if they come out at $899.00. I guess that means they'll be about $2000.00 Canadian.

Sucks about the contest but there are a few states where people can't enter either. If I win and don't like them I'll make you a deal.

That sounds like a great plan.

"IF I win, AND I don't like them, then MAYBE we can work out a deal."

I'll start the sale on the 33's.

I definitely prefer Forged Irons. These days I refuse to play anything else. Now Blade vs. Cavity Back. I currently am playing a set of forged cavity backs. To me they feel a little hard when I strike the ball so I am considering going back to a nice set of muscle back blades which feel butter soft. If you have a pretty consistent repeatable swing nothing beats them (of course even the best golfers occasionally come down with the hozel rockets) if on the other hand you tend to have lots of good and bad days then cavity back is the way to go.

For me, because the Toyota gets me to the story efficiently, if a bit less fancily, while the Ferrari will just lead me to driving all over the place and being stopped and ticketed (penalized) for not being able to control the car.

    But that's me.

    Rock:

Cannot believe you are considering going back!!

But - if in your gut - you know it is the best thing to do - do it and don't look back...

    1) You got a great deal on your clubs and if you sell them now - you will have very little net expense in the clubs for the period of usage.

    2) Mentally - you will KNOW that you gave forged blades a full season of usage and (for a variety of reasons) they are not the most practical choice for your game. Gives you peace of mind on this one.

I would second what I read above...I see so many players who are low single digit guys who don't play the forged blades but play some sort of cavity or muscle back club...The various Mizuno models seem to be so popular.

You could even keep your avatar.

  12. The simplest way I can think to put it, and I may have already said it, is to just decide this.

    Is it better to:

    A) Hit some really amazing shots with the blades, but also hit some really bad ones

    or

    B) Hit just about all decent shots, very few horrendous shots.

Golf is all about consistency, to me. I'd rather have 5 pars than 4 bogeys and an eagle.

Unless it was a REAL eagle, then I'd just teach it to attack my rival players and blade it up.

See, if I never came here, I'd probably swallow moth balls.

Shot +2 on Tuesday night and by far played the best irons of the summer. I could have landed it on a towel on the green from 215. Outstanding.

Now, coincidence, or did I just scare the irons into realizing that they could very well find themselves sitting in NSherman's basement?

I'm keeping them. Unless someone wants to trade a set of Mp-60's straight up. I'll throw in a 56* Callaway wedge, a Mizuno Hybrid and a Steelhead III 7 wood.

    I 100% disagree with this.

Hitting "really bad" shots has to do with a poor golf swing. A really bad shot with a blade would more than likely be a really bad shot with a CB as well, CB's are not that forgiving.

The only difference I can see is a "slight" distance loss on off center hits
