Move the ball one ball's distance back. Don't change your swing. You'll have a much better chance of hitting the ball before you're bringing the club back up, which is the ultimate goal in golf.
Professionals make divots the size of Rhode Island on nearly every iron they hit. That's because they catch the ball while the club is still coming down. The ball comes of the club before the club even hits the ground, but they swing right through. Moving the ball back a little bit will help you hit the ball coming down, or at least level to the ball.
