Rubenstein and Neuman's A Disorderly Compendium of Golf was pretty enjoyable. Lots of history tidbits, stories from the tour, and just wacky things. Some of the more memorable sections where a collection of John Daly's worst holes (Several 12's and 14's, and I think the worst he's ever carded was an 18) and a section that shows just how contradictory golf instruction can be -- that is, they would quote one famous teacher/player and the quote another famous teacher/playing telling people to do the exact opposite of the first. If you like to read instruction books, you already knew that that was the case a lot of the time, but it is stunning how diametrically opposite some of the advice really is.

That's exactly what the various golf magazines do. One claims to have a certain grip or stance for you & another says no that's complete crap try it our way. I have stopped reading them other than for club & or course reviews.

If you are looking for a pleasant golf read try one of Dan Jenkins' books. They are all pretty good.

Anything by P.G. Wodehouse. His short story, "The Coming of Gowf," is a classic.

I have a couple of Feherty's books, but view them as Winter reading and had picked them up around March or so and only got half way through one. Getting to be that time of the year again.

He is likely by far one of my favorite announcers in golf, enjoy his writing, and for the longest time he was the only reason I continued my subscription to Golf Magazine.

"Nasty Bit of Rough" is a great book.

I also like Rick Reilly's "Missing Links" and "Shanks for Nothing".

Kind of along the same line of Feherty's book, but no one tells a story as good as Fehery.
