Dream Setup....(ya, it's time for this)....

Having tested quite a few sets of irons and woods last week, i felt that it's time to state everyon's dream setup.

This can be based solely on looks if you've never tried out a set or any particular club in your choices.

Anyone have a Dream Set?

My dream setup would also include my dream swing. I've been thinking about my goals for 05 and one of them might be to improve my swing to a point that I could play the new mp-32s. I just love the looks of those clubs.

I've yet to try a driver that I can hit farther or better than my old TM 360, but since were dreaming and not paying I'd like play with a TP R7. Lots of screws to play with. What can I say, I like toys.

I don't know what my dream fairway woods are. I'm looking, I'm looking.

May as well get those new Mizuno wedges.

I'm not changing putters, ever. :innocchi

I'll chime in i guess...

Irons: toss up between Callaway Hawkeye VFT's, Cleveland CG1's or Mizuno Mp-33's. Ever hit a VFT iron? It's like cheating....S300's for shafts.

Wedges: Cleveland RTG 50* and 55*, plus a 60*Ping MB.

Fairways: Callaway Hawkeye Pro VFT's. All stiff shaft Grafalloys.

Driver: Callaway ERC Fusion Tour 9* or an old school Warbird 8* made of Ti. Grafalloy Blue stiff shaft in the ERC, not sure what i'd put in the "concept" Warbird...

Putter: Well, i've had two putters in my life. My current White Hot #2 rules, but i love the feel of the two-ball White Hots. I'd take one of those.

Ball: HX Blue. Not even a heartbeat worth of thinking on another ball. Just keep 'em coming....

My true dream setup is the one that puts me over the ball in a position to hit a perfect shot every time. Oh... That wasn't the one you meant. OK then, clubs... The ones I have.

I want to try the Mizuno irons. Everyone seems to love those.

Havent a clue about Driver. Like my TMR540.

I need a new putter - something that will make the ball go in hole somehow....

Several sets of new golf shoes for trip to Scotland.

And brush tees.

Having done a fair amount of club-swapping and, lately, tinkering with different shafts and setups, I've concluded that there is after all a "best" (not perfect) club for every spot in the bag for evey golfer...except that the definition of best changes with the course and weather conditions. So my dream setup would consist of about 28 clubs: a LONG driver and a control driver (I have both now, but only carry 1 at a time), a LONG 3 wood and 1 that is simply money from the fairway (have both, but again...), a 5 wood that I can hit high and a 2-iron hybrid that is more controllable at the same yardage, etc. Definitely a putter for fast greens and another for slow greens. And yes, I have a set of irons that're more accurate and a set that has a lot more zip. Hmmm...

Other than the above, my dream setup would have the absolutely best setup in every "position" for my game. For instance, I now know (or think I know, which sometimes leads to the same results) which shaft, at what relative length and flex, rotated to a certain position in the clubhead, with which grip, works best for me. I've tried umpteen combinations in the 1, 3, and 5 woods, and the setups I now have are virtually perfect. My dream setup, then, would exhibit this same level of commitment throughout the whole bag, club by club. But if I ever get all 14 perfect, I'd probably put those sticks away and build a new set of 14 from scratch. When the tinkering's done, no more fun!

"Can't stand prosperity." That's what my granddad would say.

Thanks to Buddah from golfreview.com for showing me this site. I am getting sick of it over there, although many here are over there too.. You know what I mean..

My dream setup though

Driver: Taylor Made r580xd with Speeder Shaft (I have it with a Grafalloy Blue x)
3 wood: Titlest 15* 975 with True Temper tx-90 shaft (I own, I LOVE IT!)
3 iron: Taylor Made Rac Os with tx-90 shaft

4-pw: Rac MB with true temper tx-90 shafts (And this is truly a dream because TAYLOR MADE DOESN'T FUGGIN MAKE THESE FOR LEFTIES! NOT EVEN the 300 Forged came out for lefties and MIKE WEIR DESIGNED THEM!! Gooosfrabba.. ok, i'm better)

Wedges: Cleveland CG10 52*& 55* , 588 Gunmetal 60*
Putter: Scotty Cameron Studio Design 1.5 shortened to 29''

Ball: A lifetime supply

Good post JC. I guess the perfect set is the one that inspires confidence. None of us here are that good (with the possible exception of the Rock) that slight differences in lofts and flexs will make that much difference to our ability to put the ball in the hole. I would say, much like the rest of golf, that 98% of it is in the head.

I am currently playing an OEM set of irons and this year I've probably had my most consistent set of scores for years. And I'm using an old Wilson putter and holing more putts than ever. I've tried sereral other putters (Monza, Ping, Scotty, 2 Ball etc) and none do it any better than mine at the moment. I may change that tune some time soon.

That's my 2 cents. Now if anyone wants to buy me a set of Mizuno blades, just for the hell of it, I guess I'd be interested.

It ain't what you have its how you use 'em.

Welcome to Shottalk Bartender! Hope you'll enjoy your stay here.

Nice dream setup. But what's the difference between the Graf Blue and the Fujikura Speeder shaft? Apart from the price that is...
I have the SMT with Graf Blue, and find it quite good, though the head is too heavy for me.

Glad to see you over here, BTL. This is a nice little site with some very knowledgable, encouraging people (except for Rockford35). :028:

You'll find it's pretty rewarding to share your golf experiences here, even if you suck like me. :sobbash:

Hey, you said it, not me.

Welcome aboard, Lefty. On an off topic memory, I played with more left handed golfers this season alone that I have my entire life.

Statistics show that Canada has the highest number of left handed golfers in the world. Door prize if anyone can tell me why....

Apparently Canada has an abundance of intelligent insightful people & the fact that I'm a natural lefty has absolutely nothing to do with that statement. :innocchi What do I win?

Welcome aboard BTL. And by the way, everytime I see your screen name reduced to initials I start craving a BLT.

Dave,

If I remember correctly, you began playing right handed, later switched to left handed, and then returned back to right handed. I'm a natural lefty who plays right handed as well. With my game getting to a pinnacle of frustration, I've considered trying left handed.

Why did you switch back to righty? What were the biggest obstacles when playing lefty?
