Laying clubs on putting green?

How awful is it to lay one's club (pitching, 9, etc) on the green as one puts? I like to do this when I am golfing alone or with one friend in order to help me not leave the short iron behind when I move on to next hole. What do you all think? Thanks.

If you can, I'd put it on the fringe or in the rough between the hole and your bag. It'd be hard to miss it that way. I personally wouldn't have a real issue with it, but I can see some people complaining.

If you are playing alone, leave it to where the grip is on the green but the head is just off it. There will be some that may not like thet either but those guys are going to find a reason to gripe anyway.

I don't ever remember being told so it was bad to lay a club on the green, but for some reason I could see somebody getting mad about it. I've always laid my wedge on the fringe.

I normally lay it in the fringe as well, but doesn't just about everyone who is not playing with a caddy lay the flagstick on the green when they are putting? What is the difference?

I developed my habit of laying it on the fringe when I was younger and a caddy. I was taught to never leave anything on the green, never walk across a green unless you were tending or retreiving a pin, and never stand on a green unless you were tending a pin. The habit got so ingrained that it continued when I was playing on my own. Even now, I will not lay a flag on the green unless it is one of those huge greens or I am playing by myself and there is a group behind me.

Personally, it does not bother me to have the flag or a club layed on the green. What does bother me is when someone in front of me drops the flag on the green or throws their club onto the green. That can cause damage or depressions in the surface.

Sometimes I put the wedge over the flagstick, with the clubhead on the flag.
That way it won't be forgotten.

I wouldn't have an issue wedges resting on the green, think how many people weighing 10 stone plus walk on the green everyday with spikey shoes on ?! hardly think wedge is go to do anything, but then golf does have some old fashioned rules/people to satisfy.

I try and leave my club(s) on the flagstick like Loop said, that way it "shouldn't" be forgotten.

I've never heard of anyone having an issue with a club laying on the green.

Always lay your extra clubs across the laying down flagstick. And keep the grips elevated so as to keep them dry.

Have you ever forgotten to put the flagstick back in? I know I haven't, and you'll remember your clubs every time.

This is a great solution for everything. You'll never lose a club and as long as you lay them down gently across the pin, you will never damage the green...

Bravo,

The flagstick does not go on the green either. If losing clubs is a problem, use that method on the fringe.

I will put the flagstick on the green by laying it gently on there. I don't release it from vertical and flop it down.

I used to lose clubs but the best thing that has happened to me in that department is my Woode system club organizer. Every time I return to the bag, I can do a quick visual check and in one pass of the eyes can tell if I have left something back at the green. And when I do, it is almost always on the fringe...

That is a great way to watch your clubs. I always make a point to scan the green and fringe for clubs, towels or any other items that might have been left.

You would be amazed at some of the stuff I find.
In january I found a 2 ball putter, the guy was back when he got to the next green but how do you leave a putter behind?
