Thread: Michigan Golf Packages?!?!

  1. Michigan Golf Packages?!?!

This thread is probably a long shot, but figured i'd try. Looking for anyone who might have done a weekend style golf trip in Michigan. I have been researching around trying to find somewhere to go for me and 3 of my buddies, be like a fri/sat night stay and play, 2 - 4 rounds of golf. I was gonna keep it simple and just go to Mount Pleasant, MI, and play the pohlcat and bucks run, since one of the guys and I went to college up there and played those courses before so I knew I liked em. But then i seen an older website, maybe from 08 that was for a 2 night, 4 rounds of golf package at Boyne, MI for like $220 each! Thats 20-40 bux cheaper then the individual plan i'd figured out! Anyhow, anyone from MI who has done a package like this somewhere, any opinions, recommendations? Also since i have never looked into these before, would golf courses have these deals set up yet where i could actually find/book them for 09, even though season doesn't start for 1.5-2months? Thanks.

It's Michigan for God's sake, somehow I don't think you will need to book any course months ahead of time.

And this is the 1st time I have ever heard of anyone actually admitting to going on vacation in Michigan.

Michigan has a lot of stellar courses. Nothing on WI of course, but Arcadia Bluffs, Treetops, etc. are great. Greywalls in Marquette was really nice.

We have a cottage in MI. Stay there a couple weeks every summer.

Twin Lakes. a bit south of Houghton. I'll be there either the last week of June or the first week of July if you wanna get a round in. Portage?

    Re: Michigan Golf Packages?!?!

I can't help you with the original request, so I'm going to pile on. If anyone knows anything about a play-n-stay type package involving Arcadia Bluffs, please let me know. I'm going to play there this year if at all possible; even if it means pulling an 8 hour roundtrip out-and-back daytrip. I'd rather stay the night and play it twice, though.

hey, neat. i live in Chassell township about 7 miles south of town. i never play golf up there as im usually having too much fun out in the woods, but last year i met this guy who plays in a weekly group that meets at Portage and Lanse so this year i'm bringing my good set of clubs. i'll be heading up that way in early April. i'll let you know my email and phone number and we can get together for a round. i think Twin Lakes has a course also, right?

Cool. Yes, Wyandotte is in Twin Lakes 1/2 mile from where we stay. I usually play a year's worth or golf there in a week. Pretty strange little course - all the grass is pretty much the same length, but the greens are wicked fast in one direction and slow as hell in the other. Pretty undulated, and the yardages are all wrong, but I love that course lol.

Nobody should be slagging Michigan as a vacation state!

I've lived in Minnesota, Michigan and have a ton of relatives in Wisconsin so I've spent a bunch of time in all three.

Western Michigan by the lake is awesome. Beaches, lakes, great golf courses, resorts, national forests... they have it. It's where I grew up and I would move back there in a heartbeat if I could. Of course, northern Michigan, Wisconsin and Minnesota are all great too if you like outdoors stuff. I still like Michigan the best of all three states though.

Boyne Highlands has stay and play. The Heather and Hills courses are outstanding. The Moor is a really nice track too. Since Boyne Highlands is in the Petoskey/Harbor Springs area, you can drive to other really nice courses. Hidden River is a nice course for the money. Black Lake in Onaway (40 minute drive?) is one of Michigan's best. Or you can drive/stay at Boyne Mountain and play the Alpine (another outstanding course). Or you can put your own package together and stay at the casino.

    Re: Michigan Golf Packages?!?!

Unfortunately, I don't know of any packages but if I could put one together for top 3 courses in N. Michigan it would be:

    1) Arcadia Bluffs - Arcadia, more western than northern
    2) Forest Dunes - Roscommen
    3) True North - Harbor Springs

It would take a bit of driving to play these 3 but would be worth it. They are stellar courses.

A package at Treetops or the Garland resort would work out very nicely. I have enjoyed playing at all the courses at both resorts.

My personal favorite is Black Lake. Unfortunately, it is well off the beaten path but I fell in love with it the first time I played it.

Yea one of the guys who is gonna do this with me...just went to Florida for 4-5 days to golf with his uncle. He said his uncle told em, in the spring golf season, Shanty Creek offers $84 a night per guy, includes a $10 food voucher, and unlimited golf the following day. Now its like a 4hr drive, but thatd be worth it, haha. Gonna try to find out if theyre gonna do it this season too.

I haven't spent much time in Minnesota but spent most of my life in Wisco. Western and Northern Michigan is beautiful. Living in N. Michigan I can honestly say we have much better golf than I ever had in Wisco. Don't get me wrong, Wisco has some fantastic courses, but you have to drive like hell to get to them all. I have several primo courses that are inside of an hour to drive to from my house and several not so popular courses that are great too.
