My recent, repeating pattern...

Although I don't track everything statistically in my rounds, there are two metrics I do tend to keep track of - fairways hit and total putts. My last four rounds of golf include scores of 85, 84, 82 and 82.

1) I have averaged 4-5 fairways hit. The rest of the shots are hooks, pulls and smothers with an occasional slice thrown in for spice.

2) I have had exactly 35 putts each round with 17 2-putts and 1-1 putt each round. I am damn good at "getting it close".

My swing plane is extremely flat and I am horribly violating a proper plane. The longer the shaft the worse it is.

If I can somehow get the ball in the fairway, with 150 yards or less to the green - I am getting somewhere on the putting surface. And promptly two-putting.

I need to get back with the guy who had me shooting so well last year....too bad this is such an inconvenience...

arrrggghh!!

Why is it that we are all struggling late in the season? Are we getting old? Seems like IG has his form back, but I've been reading lots of playas having difficulties recently

This happened to me last year just in time for our championship. Towards the end of the summer I just forgot how to swing the club.

Earlier this summer I turned in the best 2 rounds of my life and now it's struggle time again. This time I think it has more to do with my back than anything. It annoys the other people at the range when they hear screaming after every swing.

Flat plane is where to start, and the problem will lie with posture, grip or takeaway.Wrist set can be looked at later, although its massively important.

Hey Bravo!

Do these scores include any "wee nudges" you've given the ball if you didn't fancy the lie...?

We don't move the ball - we play it down. If we hit a ball and from the point where the shot originated it appears that the ball is lost, we hit another and take a stroke and distance penalty if we cannot locate the original ball.

If - however - we hit a ball and it appears to be perfectly findable, yet upon reaching the area where it landed we cannot find it - we do not return to the point of where the shot was previously played. Although it is a private club - we have gracious plenty members and our pace of play is monitored. In this case, we do indeed throw a ball on the ground in the area and take the same stroke and distance penalty. So if you lost your tee shot - you are 'lying three' from where you hit your next shot.

And this time of year, we are still in prime growing season. The rough is thick and we are beginning to get some early leaves on the ground. It's just not practical from a time standpoint - with players waiting right behind you - to return to the point where the previous shot was played. To avoid this, everytime you hit a ball out of the fairway into an area of known medium/deep rough, you would be hitting provisionals, which you would have to search for. Frankly, I think this would actually make the round longer rather than shorter, but it would indeed meet the rules strictly.

Bravo

I think the flippant little Scotsman was referring to tree roots, rocks, etc. We made a point of playing everything as it lay on Monday.

Indeed.

Which was fine for you, ya bassa. Not many tree roots in the middle of the fairway...
