a few questions for you golfers

Hi my name is Ross and I am a graphic design student living in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. I am working on a project designing and branding a new golf product line. I am in the research stage of the project and have a few questions I would like to ask. If you could answer any or all of these that would be great!

How old are you?

How long have you been golfing?

What determines you golf product purchases? Price? Reputation? Performance?

Do you feel like you have an image to maintain when you are golfing?

Who do you golf with?

What brand of ball do you currently play with?

Does the packaging and marketing have anything to do with your golf product purchases?

Would you like to see any changes made to any current products on the market today?

Thank you so much for your time.

Ross

How old are you?

27

How long have you been golfing?

3.5 years

What determines you golf product purchases? Price? Reputation? Performance?

All of the above

Do you feel like you have an image to maintain when you are golfing?

If I weren't so darn chubs, I'd wear pimp clothes like the swedes, so my image is to try to not suck too bad.

Who do you golf with?

Friends

What brand of ball do you currently play with?

Callaway, but the next batch is Titty

Does the packaging and marketing have anything to do with your golf product purchases?

Not really

Would you like to see any changes made to any current products on the market today?

Can the products make me better at the game? I'd like to see pricing come down to make the sport more accessible to people who would still like quality without having the wallets that are big enough to drag their pants down.

Thank you so much for your time.

Ross

I like to find the best price for the performace I need.

Do you feel like you have an image to maintain when you are golfing?
Yes.

Who do you golf with?
Friends and Co-workers

What brand of ball do you currently play with?
Top Flite Stata

Does the packaging and marketing have anything to do with your golf product purchases?
Packaging does not really have anything to do with my purcases. Marketing definitely influences my purchases. A well marketed product can introduce me to a product, but it has to perform as adverstised in order to keep me.

Would you like to see any changes made to any current products on the market today?
I would like to see high performance golf balls come down in price. Top Flite Strata are the only 3 or 4 piece golf balls available regulary below $25.00 a dozen. When they clear out the old stock, they sell for half of what they retail for, so there has to be a price point where they will increase sales enough to overcome the price decrease.

Thank you so much for your time.

Ross
I hope this helps you out.

How old are you?

---17

How long have you been golfing?

---I golfed a lot when I was 9.. but stopped until 4 months ago.

What determines you golf product purchases? Price? Reputation? Performance?

---Price, sort of. But, if it performs as well as the price tag suggests, sometimes it's worth it. I'd say performace above all else, but if two things are similar, I'd definitely go cheaper.

Do you feel like you have an image to maintain when you are golfing?

---Don't quad this one.. PLEASE... I like to make it seem like I know what I'm trying to do, even if I can't actually do it.

Who do you golf with?

---Dad, friends, brothers.. I wouldn't turn down a game with anybody that was polite about it. And as long as they don't expect me to be Tiger Woods..

What brand of ball do you currently play with?

---Nike PD: Super Soft, Nike Tour Accuracy: TW. I like the swoosh.

Does the packaging and marketing have anything to do with your golf product purchases?

---I'm a sucker for neat looking packaging. That's why I started playing the Nike PD Super Softs. Green and shiny. I wish I was kidding..

Would you like to see any changes made to any current products on the market today?

---Hmm.. More colorful clubs. Not rainbows or anything, just something other than black or 'dark mix'

Thank you so much for your time.

---I like surveys.

What brand of ball do you currently play with?
Callaway Hot

Does the packaging and marketing have anything to do with your golf product purchases?
Almost never, flashy packaging will get me to take a second look but that's it.

Would you like to see any changes made to any current products on the market today?
custom paint jobs on driver heads would be cool. I think color is taken for granted in the golf industry......the NV shaft is a perfect example.....baby shit green is not a color that belongs on any sort of golf equipment but on the other hand, who can argue with the results?

Looks like you hit paydirt here kid, Cheers!

How old are you? 28.

How long have you been golfing? 24 years.

What determines you golf product purchases? Price? Reputation? Performance? Performance. Price somewhat, but it can be overlooked to a degree.

Do you feel like you have an image to maintain when you are golfing? To a certain degree, yes. But I'm not going to pretend I'm someone I'm not out there.
Who do you golf with? Anyone and everyone. Doesn't make a lick of difference to me.

What brand of ball do you currently play with? Callaway HX Blue 3 piece

Does the packaging and marketing have anything to do with your golf product purchases? Marketing somewhat, packing zero. If it hits the ball straight and far, i don't care if it comes in a paper bag.

Would you like to see any changes made to any current products on the market today? Of course. Changes drive the market. They're inevitable.

How long have you been golfing? 31 years

What determines you golf product purchases? Price? Reputation? Performance? All of the above plus my own experience as well as the feel of the product (for clubs anyway)

Do you feel like you have an image to maintain when you are golfing? Yeah, a scruffy, pirate flag wearing , black draped person who nobody wants to pair up with when I go to the course alone.

Who do you golf with? My wife, friends, anyone who wants to play.

What brand of ball do you currently play with? Titleist ProV1

Does the packaging and marketing have anything to do with your golf product purchases? No

Would you like to see any changes made to any current products on the market today?
Yeah I'd like to see a re-emergence of products based on becoming skilled with your equipment as opposed to "forgiving" equipmnt.

Thank you so much for your time.
