Good Beginner Clubs?

I am fairly new to the game of golf and have been looking for the "right" clubs for me for a while. I keep looking around to find good deals but I also want to get clubs that will last a while and be fit my novice game. Anyone have any suggestions on irons, wedges, driver, ect?

Re: Good Beginner Clubs?

You just need to try any good cavity backed irons and see which ones you like.

If its hard to try any where you live then take a look at Adams and Callaways older sets as they agood clubs at less cost than some. Maybe Ping too....

The sort of thing that would be best to go for as an example would be

*NEW*Adams Irons Tight Lies Golf clubs Adamsgolf Hybrid - eBay (item 370199421713 end time May-16-09 19:22:18 PDT)

Callaway Big Bertha 2006 Iron Set 4-Pw Steel Uniflex - eBay (item 250424284945 end time May-16-09 15:47:56 PDT)

As for a driver I'd just start with a 3 or 5 wood and grab a sand wedge to practice with for now whilst you get a feel for the short game.

Basically

1. Get irons
2. Get lessons
3. Have fun
4. Practice
5. Get some more lessons
6. Practice
7. Think about getting a driver
8. Practice

Really practice the short game - learn from the hole back to the tee and not the other way round.

Good luck

Re: Good Beginner Clubs?

You can still find some good sets of Eye 2's around. They are classics. Excellent irons to grow along with your game.

If you're just getting into the game, stay away from blade type irons and stay away from graphite shafts in irons.

You'll use your wedge and putter more than anything else in the bag. Find something that looks good to the eye when it comes to those clubs.

Again, if you're just beginning, pick up a good 3-wood. You'll probably find you are much more consistent in getting the ball in play off the tee than with a driver. Once you've played a bit and have a better idea of your needs, you can go driver shopping.

Well another question, should i start with a 3 wood or a 3 hybrid? I hear from a lot of people the the hybrids are much easier to use and gives better results. Which one?

Start with a 3-wood. (Or, as some golf commentators call it... a 3-metal.) The first couple of rounds, bag the 3-wood, 5-iron thru pitching wedge, a sand wedge, and a putter. Those are the easiest clubs with which to get the ball airborne.

As your game progresses, you may choose to either add the long irons from the set or add a 3 hybrid and 4 hybrid instead. Of course, you will be looking to add a driver, etc. So, it'll depend on how the finances are functioning at that time.

Re: Good Beginner Clubs?

You might want to check out ebay for a set of Tommy Armour 845 Silver Scotts. These are one of the most classic modern designs and the benchmark for all cavity back designs that came after. Many good players still have them in their bags. A great set to begin your career with. You can probably pick them up for a song.

Re: Good Beginner Clubs?

If your gonna go used you might be better off going through a brick and mortar store like Golfsmith where you know what your buying is legit and craigslist is just kinda creepy and weird IMO.

Re: Good Beginner Clubs?

The good choice is to start with cheap used golf clubs. ... Its lighter overall weight allows beginner to swing the club faster even with enlarged clubhead.
