"Breaking in" golf shoes

I just bought a new pair of Footjoys. They're definately the right size because the next 1/2 size down cramped my toes and the next 1/2 size up was definately too long. But after using a cart and wearing them in order to break them in, I went ahead and walked the course the other day. Now the backs of both my feet are rubbed raw and they hurt. I've never been a big walker of courses but now I like the idea of walking most of the time.
But is there normally a break-in period for golf shoes? Until a few days ago, I'd never actually walked an entire course in golf shoes.

I'm really considering just getting a good pair of running shoes because A) My old ones are worn out anyway, and B) If I can run four miles in a good pair of Asic running shoes I can sure as hell walk four miles in them.

Cool

Sorry to tell you this but Footjoy makes shoes with about 20 different lasts, or patterns. I have 2 pairs of size 9.5W, and they fit and feel great, I got a third par, same size, and they hurt like you wouldn't believe. Turns out the first 2 were built on the same last or pattern, the third pair was on a different last. I called FootJoy, told them all this, and they told me to send in the shoes for a free replacement with a pair built on the first last that works for me.

That said, I'd recommend you try one of the FootJoy shoes that look like a pair of atheletic shoes. Those are so comfortable(at least for me) that it's like wearing an old pair of tennis shoes you've been wearing for years. May not look tradistional, but they are nice on the feet. I hope this help. Later, Don.

When you try on a pair of shoes remember that your feet will swell as you walk so you should have a little room when trying them on.

I always use saddle soap to soften them up a little before I wear them the first time.
I also just wear them for 9 holes and then change into my old shoes to finish the round. I will do this 2-3 times to relieve the stress and not get blisters.

I am going to order a pair of Myjoys, I think. Anyone seen them ? Check out www.footjoy.com , then click on 'myjoys'. They're wicked. Currently have a pair of two-tone FJ Contour Series shoes & a pair of Adidas ZX Traxion, although they are well worn, and duely need to be thrown int' bin...

I've always bought a size larger than I need and wear a good pair of durable socks, not those light polyester ones. I also take a hammer and soften the leather around the heel on the inside to make it more flexible

OBAGAIN: I was wondering if useing saddle soap has any effect on the water proofness of the shoes? Thanks in advance for your reply. Don.

I have never had a problem. You can also smear vaseline on and leave it on for a day then wipe it off, that is how I break in my ball gloves also.

When you buy new shoes, always keep the silicone pack from the box. When you put your golf glove up, put the pack inside and it will absorb moisture and the glove will last a little longer.

When I was in the forces, I was told the best way to break in new boots was told to urinate in them. I did and it seemed to work............

Did you ever find that box of grid squares they sent you to get on your first day in the motor pool? Or was it the stealth paint that looked a lot like water that you were looking for?

This sounds exciting. More details please...

I will happily piss in anyone's golf shoes. I thought about taking a dump in Kilted's golf shoe the last time we played. He was complaining of sore feet, so it's all in the spirit of the game, right?

He also had some skin chaffing in a delicate area - if memory serves you offered to see to that also

i had a pair of Stylo shoes for years that were great, i finally gave in and bought a new pair of shoes when i could see more than half of my toes with them on. I bought a rather pricey pair of Footjoys and they were horrendously uncomfortable. After trying to break them in for a couple of weeks (even wearing them at home without the spikes), i took them back and they exchanged them for another set of footjoys (more expensive but no extra charge seeing as I was causing a scene) and these were just as bad!! Anyway I ended up getting another pair of Stylo and they have been brilliant and were half the price.

That was on his hand, and it was the result of handling cash. I offered to take it off him.

Five, four, three, two..... (countdown to Kilted's comeback on this thread!!)

Nope. I didn't find a glass hammer neither. All I know is that those that urinated in their books didn't have blisters; those that didn't did....

Tight Golf Shoes

I found out that if you play a lot of morning golf and your shoes will get wet, they will feel much better if you put some shoe trees inside them afterward.
