When I envision what you have just said Gun, I feel that in that position, my swing would be "too inside" to have that position at the top.
Mind you, this isn't such a bad thing. Big John Daly is way off target with his swing, and so is Hank Khuehne. Both huge hitters, both have different backswings.
Control guys like Haas and even Annika are super parallel. I think this truely keeps your swing on plane and, as The Master points out, increases the use of your wrists and arms in the downswing.
But if you're cranking it, don't worry about it. Everyone is different. If that feels fine to you, go with it.
