How hard is it to reshaft an FT-i?

I don't think I will be doing it myself, but I want to make sure the local guy I bring it to doesn't wreck it.

Another question, can a shaft cause you to hit duck hooks? I hit probably 10 perfect drives today, either straight, or a slight draw. Near the end of my round I also hit 3 wild hooks, and I hit 2 hybrids off the planet left also. I know that I am probably getting too quick, but what could help this? Heavier shaft? More stout shaft? I'm playing the Tour N version of the FT-I, maybe I should try the fade??? I'd rather not go that route.

Luckily I putted like Lauren Roberts and had a sweet 75

Re: How hard is it to reshaft an FT-i?

The FT-i can be a pain in the ass to reshaft. If you want to send it to someone who's reliable, send it to Ken at Victory Custom. He does great work.

More often than not, due to the nature of the pull, you'll marr up the head. A little sharpie fixes it, no worries.

Does Pre-owned have something more up your alley?

Duck hooks are swing based. The club won't promote a duck hook.

Re: How hard is it to reshaft an FT-i?

Ya - I thought hard about the pershing, but I wanted the LCG head and all that was available was the X-Con or the 686 for a reasonable price. I hate the X-Con, and am OK with the 686. I have 30 days to demo and I can still get 90% return - so I have 2 tournaments the next 2 weekends, and if I still find the dispersion to be erratic, I'll prob go for the pershing.

I guess sine the my BB in my 905R is a bore thru, and .335 I cannot pull that and use it correct?

It is a simple adaptor that allows for a .335 in a Cally. It looks just like the normal Cally ferrule.

Re: How hard is it to reshaft an FT-i?

I had trouble going left with the club as well. The 45 3/4" shaft probably doesn't help matters. I was going to pull the head and tip the shaft like 1" and put it back in.

Re: How hard is it to reshaft an FT-i?

I am thinking a new shaft - something a touch stouter (not overly) and lower launching. The FT-i loves to be teed high for some reason. I am finding that I am getting better contact and more carry that way. When I tee it high tho is when I hit it more inconsistently. This is prob all in my head, but it seems a lower tee position has me hitting it lower, straighter but about 15 yards shorter also.

I am thinking whiteboard, 757, or VS proto. To this day, the best launch numbers I ever got were with an R7 TP and 757, I was hitting 1.50 over and over...

Re: How hard is it to reshaft an FT-i?

You're probably getting a lower spin rate teed up higher. That was another complaint I had with the FTi, spin rate was very high. If I got another I'd go for the LCG. You might want to think about that before dumping $$ into the shaft. The Xcon might actually have some resale to make it worthwhile as well.

I have the LCG - and I hate the XCon. I have the 686 in mine

Re: How hard is it to reshaft an FT-i?

Oh, OK. I thought you had the regular one. Still, teed up higher should make the spin rate less, in theory. I'll trade you for a SuperquadTP with a 757 and a crack on one of the weight ports.

Re: How hard is it to reshaft an FT-i?

It's an awesome driver no doubt, and I am committed to it for the summer, shit I was 9/13 today. I just want to avoid those hooks

Re: How hard is it to reshaft an FT-i?

I was 7/13 but that's with 3W, 5W and 22* hybrid, lol.

I'd say go with something a tad heavier, little more tip stiff and shorter. If it's stock length then it's 45 3/4" which is just stupid long. I'd seriously consider just having that thing pulled, lop 3/4" off it and put it right back in. That'll stiffen the tip up considerably as well as the overall shaft a bit as well.

Re: How hard is it to reshaft an FT-i?

I want to keep the integrity of this combo just in case

The FT-i is .350 also, which makes things interesting. I'm not sure how I feel about a .335 in a huge ass square headed high MOI driver.

VS Proto and NV both available in .350... call me crazy - I like the NV, what I like about it, is I know exactly how it is going to respond

Re: How hard is it to reshaft an FT-i?

And then there is the ProLaunch Red - 40 bucks...

Hit this in a Dymo and loved it. Maybe I'll get one and play the FT-i at 46 or 47"

Re: How hard is it to reshaft an FT-i?

Called the only local clubbuilder around here and he said there was no way to pull a shaft from an FT driver since you can't heat the head. He said it would need to be cut and drilled. It would cost me 35 bucks which seems fair, but I'd like to keep the 686 just in case I don't like the PL red, but it doesn't look like he can do it
