Hartford, anyone play it? Esox?

Played there today, tee's off at 5:00 & was done with 18 holes at 7:00. Didn't think I was rushing but the pace of play goes up when you are hitting well & not losing balls. The course was ok, nothing great. It's saving grace is the fact that it only costs $17 after 5pm for unlimited golf with a cart. Well actually the greens are pretty nice too, pretty damn fast too.

Have never been on a course that had fairways so wide, it was next to impossible to miss one. Shot 42's front & back which I felt was ok considering it was my 1st time there.

Probably the oddest hole on the course is #17, it's a 147 yd par 3. Nothing unusual about that except to get to the green you need to launch the ball pretty high to clear 2 huge trees & are in the way. Only way I can describe it is imagine a 150 yd hole & 100 yds out from the tee box they built a huge brick wall 4-5 stories tall that you need to clear in order to hit the green.

What I think was my best shot was another par 3. It's 214 yds & I hate those sort of distances for par 3's. Anyways used my trusty 3w & actually landed it on the damn green, just about crapped myself when it actually worked out just as I pictured.

Score could have been a little better except I came up with a couple double bogeys to go along with the 8 pars & 0 birdies.

Re: Hartford, anyone play it? Esox?

So long ago I can't remember it other than my buddy and I lost some money to the guy that just won the State match play and his partner. Is there a par five with an elevated green somewhere near the end? I seem to recall the match play winner's partner cutting a wood into a hole like that to seal the deal on us with an eagle putt.

Probably the last time I was there and it was over 20 years ago.

You're getting closer to Washington County Golf Course. Just on the other side of Hartford to the northeast.

The par 5's on the back are the 10th & 12th holes. Don't recall any elevated greens.

Washington cty is on my list for this year. I got to the course a bit early so headed the whole 3.5 miles over to Erin Hills to check it out, they are still moving a ton of dirt to get that course ready for the 2011 amateur. I will find out what that course is like on the 15th.

Re: Hartford, anyone play it? Esox?

It was a long time ago, and we played these guys about eight times back about 1984 or 1985, losing more than we won, so I might be thinking of a different day.

The sad thing is I could typically beat the guy who just won the State match play most of the time. Now he's 49, playing to about a +2 or better, winning state championships, and shooting course record scores at the club where he is a member. Hell of a player.

Me? I'm old, fat, and playing to a 6.

Let's play Washington County in early September. Maybe we could round up some of these other yahoos from the site, too. I think they have some pretty good prices come fall. It'll be cool weather, a little windy, and a nice challenge.

Sounds like a plan to me, looking at their website it sure as hell looks a lot better than Hartford. I could see myself playing to par pretty quickly on that course as there is really zero challenge & for me to say that must mean the course is ultra easy.

Done. I like Saturdays better than Sundays. 9/12 or 9/26? I have Packers tickets for Sunday 9/20 which may wipe out the whole weekend. If I get a thread going soon maybe we can coax some of the less fortunate that don't live in Cheeseland to make the journey. Are Canadians allowed to play golf in the U.S.?

My daughter has a golf ball from there with the course logo on it. She has one of those golf ball display boxes, but won't put it in there until she plays a round there. Might call for a scouting mission in the near term and I'll talk to them about tee times, fees. etc. It's been a few years since I've played it, but I can't believe it's gone downhill.
