Good putting

I was putting very solid today. I noticed a couple things that I never paid attention to before. I held my finish and watched the putt drop. Like didn't move the putter at all until the ball was in the hole. And I was thinking differently as well: "I can mark another u/d on my card after this one drops" vs. "if this one drops". All about confidence - I will make this putt. Had a bunch of one-putts for u/d but only one birdie. My swing thought might have carried over a bit too: all day, for full swings, chips, and putts, I was thinking 'tempo', being smooth and relaxed. I could get used to this.

However, I just can't shake the idea that it's best to have very low expectations: "I will miss this putt, it's too difficult". Then you are never disappointed!

Re: Good putting

I hold it putting as well, and when I think about it, I putt much better. Same with my full swings. A guy I played with told me I finish nicely, nice and high and I hold until it hits the ground. Save for the driver. I watch, and then get ready to chase it down quickly.

I think it just keeps the focus for the moment better, keeps you from rushing.

Bingo---confidence and high expectations = fewer putts/round

make em all--visual them on the way and going down--works for me.

Mike keep positive thoughts in there!!!! It's like taking medicine at first, but CHOOSE....make a choice.....remember the good ones and forget the bad ones. There is so much negative, bad mojo out there ya just gotta put a big filter up to catch the dookie and only let sweet nectar flow to melon!

Re: Good putting

Need to change the title to Good Golf instead. For my last 45 holes, I am a total of +4. This is stellar. Long, accurate drives, working irons any way I please, sticking wedges within inches, and draining all manner of putts. The only shot I can't hit right now is the 3wood off the deck. Just can't do it. But it's not necessary at the moment. 3 of my last four nines have been under par. Now I just have to see how long I can ride this train.

Re: Good putting

Confidence is key in putting, golf and life really.

My game is in shambles at the moment but the one thing I can always count on is my putting. This may sound like bragging, arrogance or whatever but I would take my putter, any green in the country against any player and I would feel confident that i could hold my own. The rest of my game not so much but definitely with putting.

It has always been easy for me. I seem to have a good ability to read greens and see the break when others around me don't. I don't practice a whole lot but am still confident with my stroke.
